I ma not sure exactly how this works or how to get it to stop but this is a common e-commerce tactic. If you search for an item or go to a site you may find blurbs for that or similar items "follow you" thru subsequent browsing sessions. Turning off cookies may prevent this, but I ma not sure.
In IE I have it set to block all except first-party and session cookies and I don't have this issue. In Google Chrome I get Kleen-Rite ads popping up over YouTube videos.
Is that a problem? Seems to me having a search engine keep track of what your searching to better direct your ads to something that may actually interest you would be better...no?
I too am concerned about privacy, but in this case it doesn't bother me.
