Looking to get into the business

I enjoy this business, but I wouldn't call it fun. Cleaning is at best boring. On a 110° summer day cleaning up 5 quarts of used diesel motor oil someone ran over, it's downright awful. I enjoy spending a few minutes getting to know a customer once in a while, and I don't mind washing down bays, but the rest I'm pretty over. I've been a service tech now for 30 years, and I can almost enjoy that, but it's not part of my everyday at the wash.

Question- what desire would cause someone to have a casheash period other than profit? I mean don’t get me wrong, the car wash itself looks like it would be fun to manage but if not for money would anyone do it?

It's the only business I know ! I have had car washes since 1987.

I enjoy my job as an RN, but honestly it’s stressful. I’m a bit of an adrenaline junkie (also a combat veteran and prior LEO), but as I get older I guess I’m learning I can get that from mountain climbing or other hobbies. Instead of working 60-80 hours a week in the ICU, working 36 in the hospital and then managing a car wash just seems so much more relaxing.

You'll probably get your adrenaline fix from running off the drug dealers.

There is a book called "Car Wash Business 101: The #1 Car Wash Start Up Guide" by Buzz Glover. It is dated but it is something to start with.

Take at least $500 and spend on business and investing books to get more sophisticated on the subjects. You might find that there is something else better than the car wash business that suits your situation.

the book may be dated 2011, and it appears more current than quite a bit of car wash equipment installed at locations across the country.

As someone who's favorite niece, sister, and lots of friends are nurses you may want to look at ortho or peds. A lot less stress. Seems like every ICU nurse ever is some sort of adrenaline junky and the burn out is super high. My niece is an oncology nurse and every six months or so takes a month rotation in pediatrics to "unwind". Sister worked ICU and Emergency for years and it got to the point she was put on forced paid leave before it killed her. She then went to geriatrics for a few years and now is more administration so she's not mentally wrecked as often. Much respect as you are doing a horribly hard and uber stressful job. Don't let your enthusiasm get you to buy into another one.
