Son called & said LW sprayed soap for 20 secs or so, arm never moved at all, then nothing else happened.
I'm not there, so hard to diagnose. Anyone have any advice?

Over length front fault. Front eyes are getting blocked. Try changing sheer pin first, after that need to look at front eyes. Other cause maybe backup loading eye not working correctly and vehicle getting to far ahead.

Could be a faulty impact switch, cord, etc. If you have a t-bar sensor for impacts, it could be that as well. 100#1# and get a fault message. This will help.

With older machines glitches happen occasionally. It was probably the sensor that detects the car in the bay, or detects the front. Couldn't find the car or lost the car when the sensor dropped out.. This is only one possibility and it may not happen again for months.. Eventually it will get worse or outright fail, making the problem easier to find.

I agree with lag. Just replace the sheer pin, sometimes they have a slight bend an give an intermittent issue.

Dam thing is doing it again. Gonna replace sheer pin. If that doesn't work, what should I try next?

On my machine; you can look at the input card and see if the proper input l.e.d.'s are lit.

I noted which ones needed to be lit up in order for machine to start a wash.

Mine is an old Superior side trac and for example, i need the following lit to start a wash:

Home prox
carriage in prox.
rotate prox ( front or rear / cant remember)
breakaway prox

maybe one or 2 others.

this is a first useful step to determine where your problem is.

on my set up it could also be a bad floor pad switch.

What errors is the LW telling you? If there are no errors on the screen...check errors on VT board. It will tell you if your VT stop and backup eyes are going bad...etc.
