Making this a secure website

I'm wondering why not make this a secure website? Every time I post something using Google Chrome there is a big red triangle in front of the www and reads "Not secure". I think it can be secure (https) and protect from hackers for about $15/year extra. It might protect us users too since we have some info in our accounts here.

That site is mostly spam and unregulated classifieds. There are more new members every day than posts.

I believe he is talking about Talkcarwash on Facebook it's a closed group that only allows wash owners/operators in and not the spam like the webpage.

It's mostly a place to put photos and videos of new equipment and stupid customers. At least that's what it looks like to me when I look over my wife's shoulder when she's on there. It doesn't look like there's near the helpful advise on there as there is here.

It's ok, but it's mostly conveyor guys. I posted there a while back, looking for an oddball vacuum latch (with pictures...easily), stating that everything in the K/R and other catalogs are different. All I got was where everyone got their latches that won't work... Also, unless you're on there all the time, stuff fades into oblivion to never be seen again. It's useful, just as this forum is, just different ways.

You might want to look into Dreamhost. They are less expensive with more features than GoDaddy.

I wish I'd known about them before I got so involved with go daddy, who will nickel and dime you to death. I'm actually hosting this forum with a company that specializes in forum management - it's more expensive but hopefully better in the long run. They're taking forever to get back with me on this security issue - may be the holidays.

Yeah, GoDaddy was using a 20-year-old email system that was easily hacked. Our business email address kept getting compromised. When I called them, the only option they gave was an upgrade to a newer email server at an extra $200 a year. So why are they charging a premium for an obsolete system? If I wanted hacked email I could use Yahoo for free.

Correct me if I am wrong ... but I thought the "secure" "padlock symbol" thing was mostly for Web Pages where items (E-Commerce) are being sold online & there is a CC info danger issue??? If the only problem is an isolated case of a somewhat dubious itself anti virus-malware program's pop up happening ... it seems like possibly an overreaction to try for a 100% secure website??? Do any of us really give out that personal of information here like we would when we are on payroll processing, banking, medical centers & similar websites?

I think it is mostly to prevent a cyber attack. There are not very many forums that are not secure these days.

Point well taken. I am not familiar with how much potential total cost a back end cyber attack vs what front end extra security would prevent at possibly less cost??? It seems there are 3rd party monitoring contracts happening out in the cyberworld that go beyond just the minimalistic two way encryption?

Someone pretty high up in the internet management world ... who should be in the know ... told me a few years ago that most stolen identity problems are caused by smaller merchants etc. He worked for a larger company ... so I took that as possibly self serving in a bad way.

I guess what SSL would give this forum is for example, you are logging into the forum from an open wifi at the airport or something, someone sniffing the internet traffic at the airport won't be able to capture your password as it's being sent here because it will be encrypted. The forum probably doesn't have any super sensitive info saved here for most of us (maybe some of you send your SSN's and CC numbers to each other in private messages or something, lol).

But say they take those login credentials they just captured and now they login here and get your email address from your account information and you happen to use the same password for that. Now they pretty much have access to everything of yours cuz they could see who you have accounts with based on the emails you receive and go to town on those accounts.

I updated my website with SSl also not too long ago. You can do it for free. Just google it. I didnt pay anything (using wordpress though).

I'm not sure what benefit a new look would be, but I sure would like to see that effort put into making not an act of congress to post a picture.
