Meter door alarm sensor

I have magnetic sensors on my meter doors for my alarm system. Problem is they need to be almost touching to close the zone, but about 2" apart to open the zone to trigger the alarm.

I had a meter box broken into about a year ago and intended to change out the sensors to something different. It there something better to use? I'm looking for something that will trigger at about 1/2". I am also going to install shock sensors at the same time.

This is a timely post. One of my customers was broke into yesterday, and I'm looking for a shock sensor, one that is wireless. I'll let you know what I find. I want to put them on the vacs also. I think this is better than a door switch since you can force some doors open by the hinge side and leave the locked side intact.

I have recently been using a spring loaded pin switch that you can screw out the tip or screw in the tip to set the distance. You could put one of these through your meter and put a lock bar over it. Then if lock bar is removed the spring loaded pin switch pops out and the alarm goes out.

Gary Baright uses these shock sensor with great results. First strike cause audible alarm to sound. Second strike call the alarm company and the cops. They are also adjustable.
