My bank requires all large cash deposits from businesses to have the cash already counted and strapped by denomination.

And the bank tellers still groan when I come in with a box of money. And they don't even re-count any of the one dollar deposits; only the larger denominations.

I was in a similar situation, but decided to play hardball. Taking the deposit account elsewhere was not an option they liked. Especially when mentioning that other banks have equipment that verifies it in no time... First, the bank had us not fill out deposit slips but deposit in sealed bank bags that they could later just put their name on and give to the courier (who doesn't require separated bills). That worked great for a long time until the bank was bought out and policy changed. The bank manager then was able to convince the parent bank that they would be better off just paying the courier to pick up direct. Problem solved. No more separating or bringing to banks!

FWIW ... the local Cummins Rep who sold us our serial port connected Cummins 2000 coin counter without a service contract back in 2002 told me the following: When I told him that I was interested in buying a Cummins Bill sorter counter in 2011 ... he told me he would sell a brand new one to me ... only if I agreed to a service contract. His reasoning was that the bill counter would definitely be much more maintenance than our super reliable & durable Cummins coin counter. Based on that ... we decided to go the route of the "non sorting" Royal Sovereign Brand cheepie route from Sam's Club. Our 3 bin stackers on our 2 Standard ChangeMakers helps.

I know that some on the forum possibly can prove the potentially overcautious Cummins Rep wrong. The local rep does the Cummins Bill & Coin counters for banks extending even into Montana not just central north dakota.

Service contracts, maintenance plans, extended warranties or whatever fancy name they put on them are just BS for-profit add-ons. If they weren't a money maker, they wouldn't sell them. I've never bought one and never will. I'm way ahead of the game. I know there are some of you out there that saved $87,000 when your k'noddin rod flew out of your Prevost motor coach, but the other 90% of the suckers paid for it.

She did offer a maintenance plan for $591 but it seems optional.

She also quoted a i200 for $4115

Makes me curious is the 4098 about to be discontinued

That certainly held true for our "local area network connected Cummins COIN Counter" ... we were definitely money ahead bypassing a service contract in that situation .... especially considering over 16 years later of being able to deal with all of the very minor issues "in house"!

I bought that one for $1250 on Amazon. Like it. Too early to tell if there are any durability issues.

I've got the two pocket cummins. No need for a service contract. We're not a bank or casino counting thousands of notes every day. Every few years I have to take mine in for service and it seems like it cost less than $200.

Where do you get yours serviced? I use a local independent guy and about every 3 years he does a full overhaul that costs about $700-800. Wondering if I am way overpaying...

Models of anything and everything are discontinued every day. Seldom is repair parts an issue for years down the road. Now going out of business is a whole nother ball of wax...or is it carnauba? conditioner? protectant?

Update - Returning the Royal Sovereign. Too Temperamental if Bills are not pristine. Keeps giving duplicate or cannot read codes.
