Well Pat,

Seems Ms. Smiths hernia has come home to roost. I wish the old threads were still available. Seems your beloved "Nickel & Dimed" has become required reading in some of our government schools. Also, seems the author set out to fail so she could advance her agenda & sell some books. John Stossel, one of the few,if not the only, libertarian leaning journalists had a very interesting 20/20 this past Friday. If you did not see it or can't find it on the web I'll buy you a transcript. A college kid took 25 bucks and made it. When the nickel & dimed author was interviewed all she could say was "thats not fair". I forgot the name of the new book, but I'll find out and let you know.

Ok I found it. Go here

then read Scratch beginnings by adam shepherd.

Dear Cebo:

It's a genuine treat to hear from you. I mean that sincerely.

As I suspect you must know it is almost always possible for someone who is a college graduate to temporarily make sacrifices and then claim how he struggled up the laddar of success. Sorry, won't do.

What Ms Erenright (sp?) showed, over and over again, was that this was NOT happening for most minimum (just above) wage workers. How could it? The college grad has budgeting skills, he/she has knowledge about how to advance in a job situation, should be articulate, fully literate - - on and on.

I'm amazed that you failed to see this absolutely glaring difference.

Pat,

Just can't let me win one can you? You seem to have some kind of brain filter that won't let you change your position on this. The point is that very simple sacrifices will let you earn a decent living. Budgeting my a$$. If you bring home $250 a week you can't live in a motel spend it on $40 pants, Budweiser, and Marlboros. The pitiful poor you keep describing keep doing the things that keep them there. There are some many "free" educational resources out there put on by the government and non-profits so as Ben Franklin said, "We are all born ignorant, but one must work hard to remain stupid.?. Seem we have a lot of people working hard at that. I haven't read the book yet but I'll let you know if it was the polished skill of a kid with a BS that moved him up so quickly or just hard work & simple sacrifices. I guess he needs to get a PHD like Barbara then he really won't have any real work job skills.

We all know (well almost all) that PC never needed to "let you win one" --- in the arena of common sense cordoned with facts --- your wins are self evident ... of course.

As for journalists and other very hi-profile guys in media who are self proclaimed Libertarians --- Stossell is hardly alone. And their numbers are beginning to swell geometrically. Some examples off the top of my head: the venerable Hugh Downs, Matt Drudge, Neal Boortz, Glen Beck, "even" Sean Hannity, and I'm sure many others.

Actually, it's gotten to a point where the great majority of Right thinking authors, radio talk show hosts, journalists, economists, cogent celebrities, etcetera, openly and vigorously disavow a connection to the RINO corrupt Republican party. When they self-describe their political principles and affiliation, the growing trend is clearly going from "Independent Conservative" to "Libertarian".

And, yes, the young author of "Scratch" was "only" armed with common sense, a work ethic, and the belief that this country's foundation in freedom and free enterprise is so very rich in opportunity ... if you work for it. He had essentially the same "educational advantages" as the Lib authorette of "Nickle & Dimed" ... only she had an agenda she was determined to "prove", namely, "America Sucks!" and we need more and bigger Big Government to make things "fair".

Speaking of "Bigger Government" --- I imagine those of us on the Right, will soon be thanking Obama and the Libs in Congress for proving to most everyone the dangers and horrors of Socialism. The thing is, it is going to be a long, hard, ugly, painful lesson. Brace yourselves.

Go back and read the rise of Hitler and how he took advantage of the economic conditions in Germany in the 30s. You will become very scared.

The problem with socialism is that you eventually run out of other people's money.
