any idea where we can source one of these other than from Jim Coleman Co? Their prices are off the charts on most stuff and I would love to find an alternative supplier. The motor is a Hyundai model HK215KL135Z Crown signature. thanks
Check eBay - I've found a number of good deals on motors, usually they're pretty good on shipping and as long as you go with a seller with near perfect feedback you probably won't get ripped off. I just got a "scratch and dent" new motor for less than half a brand new one and for only $30 shipping.
If it still runs but is just making bearing noise, you can have the bearings replaced for a fraction of the cost. If it's burned up, it'll usually cost close to a new one to get it rewound.
I replaced three of these with Baldor Model CEWAM3711T You will need to remove the rear cover on this motor for it to fit on the two side motors for it to fit. They were around $1300 each. Any Baldor dealer should be able to get it for you. I have had one of these rebuilt over the years but my experience has been that the cost to rebuild warrants buying a new one.
Just realized that you posted WW 2.0 I replaced them on my WW 1.0 with the motors listed above. I think it will be the same result but wanted to let you know.
Yes they can. It all depends on what's wrong with the motor. I'd take to a motor shop and get it looked at. They should be able to give you estimate on what it will cost to repair it. Finding a good motor shop is hard. There used to be 4 motor shops here in town now there is only one and he is swamped.
Anybody have any recommendations on the easiest way to remove these motors/blower fan. I have done it only a few times, but it really sucked! Just looking for ideas to make it easier....
Removal is made easy with the rental of a warehouse style fork lift. We simply un bolt the motor with the fan attached and lift the entire unit up and out. then install the fan unit on the new motor and drop back in place. It's about a 2 hour job if you have everything ready to go. It's well worth the rental price to have the lift.
I know a lot of people will not agree with my method but it has proved very effective for me. First you need to have garage doors with tracks. I lay a ladder across both door tracks right where the end of my door tracks attach to the ceiling. I run the gantry down underneath the ladder. I block my winch up as high as I can above the ladder by laying 2x4's across the ladder (you'll need the additional room to get the blower and impeller above the gantry, middle motor still will not clear but you can muscle it over) take impeller covers off while motors are still mounted to gantry. The I winch it down on to my pick up bed. Scary first few times but works great! I still stay clear while door tracks are supporting all the weight but try to do it quickly. Tracks have never bent or pulled out of roof one bit. I can remove or replace a motor in about an hour to hour and a half. I think the weight is spread over the length of the ladder and is not as detrimental to the garage tracks as one might think.
