Need advice on a Ryko signature series and more.

Looking at purchasing a Carwash that was setup originally with everything RYKO. Signature Series self serve. 3 bay. Then it also has a touch less automatic that I believe is super outdated. Everything was built/installed in 2005. Currently everything is shut down in the Carwash due to some vandalism at the coin box and honestly I believe it’s a lack of knowledge on current owners part. I have heard of PLC issues with the SS system. Just looking ahead to see the work around or long term of what I should expect out of the SS system. I understand the normal maintenance of the pumps, belts, hoses, etc. I’m more interested in the electrical parts that at RYKO specific. Thanks in advance. Any input is appreciated.

Those Signature Series systems can be solid if the controls stay happy, but you’re right — once the PLCs start acting up, it’s a different ballgame.
A lot of the older RYKO setups used proprietary boards and parts that are getting tougher to find now unless you know someone parting out a system. Some people end up retrofitting standard PLCs just to keep things alive, but it’s not always cheap upfront. Long term though, the mechanical side (pumps, motors, etc.) usually outlasts the electrical brains if you stay on top of it.
Are you planning to keep it self-serve, or maybe upgrade the automatic side too?

I have had my signature series since 2003 and never had any PLC problems. The system has been very solid and I think all I have replaced is a couple of motor starters and an occasional solenoids. I have replaced the cat 530 pumps with arimitsu pumps as they wore out.

I don't know anything about that SS pump system but I wouldn't be too concerned. If the PLC is no longer available a good tech could modify that system as needed to keep the pump unit running. From a hardware standpoint it's essentially the same thing many companies make today,

The programming is held on a chip so you could replace the computer if it went bad and install the chip and keep going. If the PLCs are hard to find RDM can repair them.
