Need new entry units, major theft last night

I woke up this morning and checked my cameras and noticed that the two cameras pointing towards my Entry Units for my automatics were pointed at the ground. I knew something shady had happened and I just got confirmation that both of my Jim Coleman Entry Wizards were stolen. They were encased in a nice brick housing, and apparently the thieves destroyed the brick and stole the units, both of them. I haven't even gone to the wash yet, but I know that I need to get a replacement and was wondering what I should consider replacing them with. I liked the entry wizards because they were tied to my swipenclean, and while it sucks as a credit card system it was nice to be able to make and issue discount and free wash codes along with fleet billing and some other nice features. With the damage, I'm sure it's going to be more than just a simple replacement, but I have to buy new units regardless, so I want to get the ball rolling so that I can minimize downtime.

With the brick being destroyed and the wires cut, I would have to do a lot of work to get any machine in there, even the same entry wizard. I'm hoping insurance will pay and then maybe I should go ahead and get something nicer. It wouldn't make sense to go back to something so old if I have to do a lot of work anyway. If it was plug and play, then I would stick with the EW for sure. I'll have to see how things shake out with the insurance and see what my options are, but I wanted to get a head start.

Yeah, they were taken out for a reason. But if you decide you need em, i got em. Hopefully you can convince the adjuster that they are part of a whole and that you need new a new credit system for the rest of the operation too.

Here is picture of the aftermath. Both cameras were knocked down and then what you see is how it looks now. The entry units were bolted down into the concrete slab and then surrounded by brick followed by a concrete layer on top. If they took this out, I don't think any of the kiosks sold on that website would hold up.

FWIW, when I worked for a distributor we had a customer whose ACW had been pulled down with a chain. A neighboring wash had been hit too, but they stole the whole cashier and base. The one I went to, even though the guy who put it in anchored it to the ground with 1/4" lags that just pulled right out, he also filled the base with 600 pounds of concrete so the thieves couldn't lift it into their truck. It was just lying on the ground with the only damage to the coin cup. I remounted it on a used base we happened to have (3/4" wedge anchors this time and another 600 pounds of concrete) and had them back up and running in barely an hour.

The unit probably would have taken more damage, but it had the lighted hood on top. It was completely destroyed, but there wasn't a scratch on the ACW except the coin cup.

Been there and done more than once, so I feel your pain. I hope you have good insurance with business interruption coverage. The last one I was involved it came in at $21K by the time we paid the electricians, brick masons, damage to the wash equipment in the equipment room and the new ACW. I’ll never put an ACW on a stainless steel stand again, too easy to steal, brick or concrete are the only way we install them.

I’ve got video of two guys stealing a ACW with the stainless steel base completely full of concrete, if they want it they’ll get it.

I replaced my Entry Wizards with Access B units from PDQ. They have been very reliable and work well with my WW 1.0's. PM me I might have the inside track on two used units. I can fill you in on the details.

My Dad got his unitec pulled also.... but it was on a ss pedestal. Wow.... that is a crazy picture.... I bet that was a messed up surprise!

Looks like insurance will cover new units, I am probably going to get the Unitec Portal TI. Any feedback on those?

I have 1 unitec Wash select II unit with a POS 4000 that i am looking to sell if that would be any help to you. it has a dial up cc processor.

I've already put in two Portal TI units. So far they are really great. Only washed a few cars due to this insane weather, but feedback on them has been good and I like them.
