I am unable to activate my HP functions on my IBA (Coleman WW 1.0). I checked all circuit breakers and water levels in tanks. I can use the TEST screen to try to activate but the CAT pump does not activate. Any help would be appreciated.

Do you hear the contactor "click" ?

If I recall there is a small fuse located in the same strip as the lights on the 10 position sign that would blow. I believe it would blow if either that sign or the entrance sign had a short in it.

Yes, the contactor clicks. I wonder if my float switch is failing. As far as the sign strip, I have the LED scrolling screen. I am not sure where the fuse could be.

If the contactor engages and it still does not run, there are only a couple of possibilites:
1. Main power is odd or breaker tripped.
2. Loose connection on any of the wires from the breaker panel to the motor.
3. Motor overload is fried.
Just be careful when troubleshooting this due to the hazard factor.

Check amperage on each leg to motor. Could be a break in a single wire that is not visible.

Discovered the contactor had tripped. I could press the contactor manually and engage the motor.

After reviewing phone messages on my answering machine last evening a customer in the manual bays described no water pressure functions or soap coming out in the manual bays. He also stated there was a problem with cars in the automatic. I suspect either the water department was up to something in the area or the power was fluctuating and caused mechanical problems. I found no problems in any manual bays.

Thanks all for your prompt replies.

Not solved yet. After I reset the tripped contactor I began washing a few cars just fine. As soon as I left it tripped again.

If the rinse tank ever ran dry (when hydrominder broke) the float switch would shut it off. However, there is usually an error message on the LED screen indicating "RINSE TANK EMPTY". This is not happening. When I use the TEST screen functions now the it trips the contactor immediately. I will check wiring as "mac" indicated.
Any other suggestions?

I would replace the contactor, normally when they start tripping they get so weak that they are no longer reliable.alsocheck wiring to make they are tight.

Low water problems- turbulent water at the level of the float switch could rapidly start and stop the pump and cause the overload to trip. Then the tank fills up. Can't remember if the rinse tank empty message goes away without clearing it. But once tripped several times the overloads don't work as they should. But before you change it out you should check it. Do you have a multimeter with clamp around ammeter? The overload could be tripping for another reason.

Here is the latest findings:

If I use the TEST screen and turn ON a HP function the contactor trips out.
I usually turn the HP function OFF then reset the tripped contactor.

If I use the TEST screen to turn a HP function ON, it trips. However, this time I leave the TEST function "ON". Next, I reset the tripped contactor, the HP function runs fine!?

First thing I would do would be to check the voltage coming in to the contactor. I'm assuming this is a 3 phase, so you'll need to check each leg coming in.

If that checks out ok, check the amp draw on the motor.

Also check the connections to the motor, I see a lot of pump motors that vibrate the connections loose at the motor... usually a wire nut is loose.

It was explained to me that after these overload relays activate a few times they tend to fail. I contacted Coleman and they have since upgraded to a new replacement part number for the Sprecter & Schuh Overload relay
SPRECHER+SCHUH O/L RELAY
CEP7-EEGE

I am ordering this part.

Thanks for the replies. After speaking with a Coleman tech they mentioned the overload relay on the contactor has a history of failing after a few times being tripped. They have since upgraded to a new model overload relay.

I ordered a replacement overload relay and installed and it seems to be working okay. I checked for any loose wiring.

By the way, I got quotes from $160 to $65 for the same part (without shipping charges).
