Gentlemen -

Early Thursday afternoon: The House has just passed the Senate's version of the Small Business Jobs and Credit Act. The bill now goes to the President for his signature. Apparently the bill will be signed into law on Monday. Being aware of enactment is important because many of the provisions in the Act start immediately upon signing and expire on December 31st.

This new Act will be very significant to many car wash businesses and car wash business owners.

That's useful info for those of us without a radio, TV, or internet. :)

Ryko, until the day when you and other forum members begin driving to Idalou, Texas to wash your cars, I'm not mixing anything.

And if you were driving to my car wash, I'd prolly still discuss politics when it is appropriate to the thread...which it is.

We got that moron in the White House making our futures more dim by not getting involved and allowing the liberal entitlement class to drive the debate. That ain't happening again. And I'd a lot rather **** you off about it than to have to look my face in the mirror every morning when I shave, and know that I sat idly by while my son's future was mortgaged.

Another pathetic attempt by the Administration to get re-elected, things are only good for less than 90 days, God, give me a break.

I'm as sure as anyone that at least some Representatives and Senators supported or discouraged, or voted for or against the Small Business Jobs Bill for reasons other than the merits of the bill itself. A Representative or Senator does what his or her constituents want or they don't get re-elected. That is why I encouraged everyone to write to his or her Representative and Senators on this bill: November is decision time.

Oh were it only that simple. Those dems who're 15 points behind in the polls going into the election will vote for a host of reasons that are contrary to their constituents' interests. Lame ducks waddle to their own drummer.

How many of them know they will be defeated in November, but have been promised things by Obama for voting his way on bills? Can you say Sestak???

Thinking that more than a handful of politicians, on EITHER side of the aisle, have our interests at heart is foolhardy.

You want to push a bill I can enthusiastically get behind you on, Alan? Term limits!!!

Alan,

we wouldn't need a $30 billion small jobs credit bill, if the government wasn't already paying out $700 billion in interest every year on the national debt? We all need less government in our lives and less government spending which is crowding out private lending.

We also wouldn't need this bill, if the govt. wasn't promulgating policies that have nearly every business - small, medium and large - so worried about health care costs and taxes going forward that no gimmick bill in the world is going to make them want to hire new workers. In fact any business owner with a brain can see the writing on the wall if dems stay in power that both their personal; and business taxes are going to have to out of sight to get Obama's numbers even close to working.

Who in the world wants to invest in new equipment to increase production capacity when their customer base who have jobs is dwindling at an ever increasing rate. Hell, we haven't even seen the coming hyperinflatiion and drastic reduction in the value of the dollar that is still to come. Funny how little too you hear about the commercial real estate crisis that will make the home mortgage crisis look tame in comparison. Look, you can delay the laws of economics only so long with this Keynesian economic policy of spending us into oblivion before the chickens come home to roost.

Again, government is not the solution - it is the problem. If these disastruous liberal economic policies continue unabated, in a couple of years we're all going to long for the good ole days of 2008-2009.

I know these liberal controlling our lives right now are not stupid. Quite the contrary, they are extremely smart and they know you cannot simply tinker around the edges to get their full socialist agenda in place. Rather they have to destroy the current quasi-capitalist economic system in order to replace it with their socialist utopia where everyone is equally miserable - except for them of course because the powerful always protect the powerful - at the expense of the people. This is why their current policies along with their czars whcih are causing this economic collapse are not accidental but deliberate.

November 2 will determine whether or not this nation begins to make an economic comeback or continues down the path to economic ruin.

Couldn't have said it better, Chiefs. IMO, if you are under 50, you better start figuring out how to survive, the same or worse economic conditions for the next 10 years. If you are over 50, you better start worrying about surviving at all. What you have today, may be all that you will ever have if you are lucky.

The only person that is bill will help are people that have nothing to lose. Just like in the 70s when you had to be Black or Brown to get a SBA loan, they had nothing to lose and the failure rate was about 98%

Alan, I understand that you are hoping that this bill will entice someone to use you, because times have probably been lean for you. IMO, don't hold your breath.

Unemployment went up last month in Atlanta to 10.4 and the state is now at 10.1. Those are hard, cold figures that this Administration cannot explain away so easily. Nothing they have done has been able to resolve our economic problems and I suspect this bill fits that as well. This bill is a last ditch effort on the part of Obama to try to save his a$$ this Fall. Throughout his Administration Obama has almost single handedly destroyed the efforts of the businessman and now he thinks he can throw them a bone to keep them quiet. Nice try but no cigar.

I echo some of the thoughts already expressed here. Our industry, with its many individual enterpreneurs, ike many throughout this country is under attack by the left who feel that the more taxes they can load on and controls they enact on businesses they can expand entitlement programs for those for do nothing to contribute to the economy or the general good of our country. It is not hard to believe that this Administration is bent on destroying our way of life in a effort to socialize our nation.

Fortunately it appears that those efforts will come to a grinding halt in a few days when the Fall elections take place. We will have to endure another two years of a lame duck President but maybe in the end people will finally realize what Obama was out to do and it will serve a lesson to future generations to avoid such a disaster.

These people are absolute idiots. I saw that fat-a$$ed Michael Moorer on TV the other day who said that the mosque in New York should be built on the site of 9-11 not near it. This is a guy that receives accolades from his Hollywood buddies. Maybe in addition to kicking leftists out of the government we should stop attending anything remotely attached to these lunatics and see how they like being recipients of these entitlements instead of proponents.

It's like a guy runs out of gas, coasts to the shoulder, gets out and installs his spare tire then wonders why his car still won't go. Obama's "fixes" had no chance of doing anything other than making the problem worse.

In my house the debate is whether or not Obama is trashing the economy because he's an idiot, or whether it's intentional. I'll let you know who wins the debate.

Allen,

in your latest post you encouraged us to contact our representatives to give input--that is legit, but you started this thread begging members to adopt your position with some little ditty pre prepared and ask that we tell reps to vote "for"--that is what was out of line in my opinion

by the way I did the opposite and will hold the scums accountable with my vote and help candidates aligned with my position--but I certainly don't need your advice on politics or what to tell my reps, an update on what the bill contained is fine

Ted

Alan,

It is hard to support anything this Administration does. For your business to improve, and everyone else's for that matter, you should be pushing to get rid of these left wing socialists called the Obama Administration. This bill digs us a deeper hole and is a lame attempt to appease business men suffering under the weight of a declining economy and a greater tax burden.

Yesterday some of the new Obamacare measures took effect. Even the liberal media in our town interviewed several small businessmen who said they will have to either lay off some employees to pay for higher healthcare premiums or eliminate healthcare altogether. How does that make things better? How can anyone expand their business when they are struggling just to survive?

Guys, I linked to the video of the President's statement about the bill only because he (or rather, his speech writer) summarized the bill so clearly. It could have been anyone making the statement for all I cared.

When I first posted about HR 5297, the Small Business Jobs and Credit Bill, many people had not heard anything about the bill and the provisions to temporarily eliminate the SBA Guarantee fee and increase the guarantee percentage. I know car wash owners who could not take advantage of the temporary fee waivers and higher guarantees during previous periods under the Recovery Act because they found out about them only within a week or so of those periodic expirations. That was not enough time to get tax returns done, plans approved by the cities, equipment quoted, contracts written, etc.. Not knowing can cost tens of thousands of dollars. I know car wash owners where it did cost that much because they weren't aware until it was too late. My objective for this thread was to make people who read AutoCareForum aware of the opportunity early this time. For a variety of reasons this may be the last time that you and I will see these fee waivers and higher guarantee percentage.

Back in July and August others in my lender associations and I were not certain that the Jobs Bill would pass in the Senate. It was only two weeks ago when two Republicans broke the 60-vote barrier that we could see that it might happen.

Men, when we contact our Senators and Representatives we do have a say in how they vote. I know that it isn't much, but contacting them makes me feel that I am making a difference. If any of you also wanted the bill to pass (or even not pass) I thought that you'd find it interesting to contact your Senators and Representative by using their web sites. Call me naive, but I did not know until the day that I posted the steps for finding their web sites and contacting them through those sites that we could even do that. Now any of us can use those steps to contact them about other issues that we care about.

For the good of you guys and other people in the car wash industry I wanted you to know about the bill, something about the provisions in the bill, and the expiration date of some of those provisions.

Did you guys see the MSNBC news story about television's Comedy Central comedian Stephen Colbert testifying today before the House Subcommittee on Immigration, Refugees, and Border Security? There was a minor controversy this morning immediately before, during, and after Colbert's appearance because of his profession as a comedian.

“Asked if it was appropriate for a comedian to testify on the Hill, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi told reporters, “Of course”.” Now, THAT’s funny!

Guys, I am going to take a few days off. Enjoy your weekend.

Yeap, they have time and money to make a joke of Washington, but they won't even hold a committee meeting to discuss the immigration problems. Anyone that votes for any anyone in office, should have his head examined. Of course, some of these Tea Party dingbats make the ones there look reasonable.

Alan, That story is exactly why we need to get rid of the socialists in DC. That whole meeting was a farce. It was an attempt to belittle those who would dare oppose the madam speakers policies. What a joke, just not the one the Dems thought there were telling.

The car wash industry isn't the only ones who feel that this program is not what we need to get the economy moving. Banks and Small Business Wary

Bank executives say their customers don't want loans, even at low interest rates, because the sluggish economy has chilled expansion plans. Some say the federal money isn't worth it because they fear it will come with too much regulatory oversight
.

Ninety-one percent of small business owners surveyed in August by the National Federation of Independent Business (NFIB) said all their credit needs were met. Only 4 percent cited a lack of financing as their top business problem. Plans for capital spending were at a 35-year low.
