The softener tank has an inner liner that actually keeps the water in, and the fiberglass only gives it strength. You can't patch it, at least not from the outside.

You'd have to take it out of service, inspect it from inside to find the crack and find something that can seal it. I don't even know if there is such a product, but the tanks aren't very expensive. I wouldn't put the effort into it.

It CANNOT be fixed from the outside. It's two separate layers and the leak is probably not even where you see it.

it's a 16" x 65" tank; dealer i bought system from quoted $768 + shipping, so just under a grand.

unless someone knows a better priced source?

Unless they are quoting you the tank with all the media that is about double what our full list price is.

any fix will fail probably sooner than later. I'd get a different quote from other places. I can get a complete charcoal filter with head and charcoal at that price. You might be able to get a complete softener tank w/resin at that price or just a bit more.

My repair lasted a couple of years then another leak sprung up. Repaired that one and it lasted a couple years before I removed it for other reasons.

If you are dead set on replacing it, Wood Brothers has the least expensive softener parts that I've found. Haven't priced tanks, but I would check their price for one before I purchased somewhere else.

We tried several times to repair a softener tank with a crack near the top - could not. Good luck. Mark
