I have had a pdq tandem for four years now. This machine produces a very clean car and my customers love it. My biggest problem with the Tandem is that the side brush gets caught in the trailer hitch whenever a vehicle with a hitch use the machine. The machine will then time out and the vehicle never gets a complete wash. What is frustrating is that when the brush is caught on the hitch the driver of the vehicle almost always puts his vehicle in reverse and backs into the side brush. I guess he thinks that will help start the brush again. Whenever this happens the result is a bent shaft at the top of the brush (hundreds of dollars of damage). Because of the high frequency of this happening I have posted major signage warning that all "trailer hitches must be removed before using wash --YOU will be responsible for any damage to car wash ". Even with all the Warnings, the damage still continues. I have a license plate camera and have filed claims against those who have caused damage to the brush.

I have talked with PdQ about this with no apparent solution for this major problem. The only other thing that I can think of is to have a recorded message to warn the customer at the Access pay station unit since no one pays attention to the signs. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Unfortunately, you can not fix stupid people. I have been in this biz since 1992, and I feel the biggest problem everyday is stupid people. Equipment is an easy fix compared to dealing with idiots.

That said- I think a recorded message is a great idea if you have a way to do it. I think your customer may pay more attention to that, as the car wash facility has way too many signs. Therefore folks just do not read them.

Why does PDQ not have software that retracts the brush to the side once an error has occurred??

Just out of curiosity. What are your high and low torque values set at?
