I could be wrong ... but it seems like the specific UV light resistant of the specific PEX tubing could be a factor. I have memories of some tubing becoming cracker-crumbly brittle in the past.

Many equipment rooms have PEX in use for water service:

• Main inlet
• Water softeners
• Floor heat systems (hePEX)
• Warm and cold water supply to pumping/blending systems
• Weep system supply

Bay supply lines are typically

• LLDPE (Linear Low Density PolyEthylene) for low pressure systems
• Stainless Steel tubing, 3R30 Thermoplastic and/or 100R1 hydraulic hose for high pressure systems.

Natural gas PEX pipe (below grade) is commonly used by utility companies and their contractors in new construction.

Any tubing should work as long as it's rated for the pressure you're using it for, and it's protected from any sunlight, or it specifies UV resistance. Most black tubing will resist UV.

I use Nylon N11 from Freelin-Wade. 1/4" is rated at 600 PSI (2400 burst), 3/8" is rated to 250 working pressures. They have a high-pressure N11, 800 PSI working pressure for 3/8".

Is there a good place to get the Nylon N11?

Anyone try air brake tubing? I see some 3/8" on ebay that has a working pressure of 400psi for less than .50/foot

I've been getting the 3/8" Freelin-Wade through Burns Controls for 43¢/ft. The shipping is really high, but it's still under 50¢/ft. total. You may have to contact Freelin-Wade to find your closest distributor.
