Photo Eye Sun Shield

1" ID hose. "Threaded" right on. Seems tight enough to stay on without clamps and retain the eye.

That is exactly the type of thing that should work. Do you have a part number that I could call about the specs for? Do you know what model photo eye it is attached to?

i think these shields are around $30 each through my distributor. If you're interested I'll get you a number. Coleman use the multi channel banner eyes that look similar to what you are using.

I created a similar shield to the hose idea with heat shrink tubes from Home Depot. Purchased the largest they had and made a small cut in one end to allow the tube to slide over the eye. Seems to work although I like hose solution too.

One thing for you guys to think about and prepare for is if your eyes are mounted outdoor as they should be on the exit door then that hole is a collection trap for snow. If your in a cold climate state then on heavy snow days I would remove those and replace later. Especially if there pointed up. A hood would be a better solution if there outdoors.

We never have that issue because ours are inside. I bet the hose could be trimmed along the bottom effectively turning into a hood.

You could also just change out the photo eyes for ones designed to work in direct sunlight. If you go this route then select ones that the wire screws onto. That will make future changes quick and easy.
