My motor is hot. Guy says he can rewind, replace bearings, etc, for $800 + tax.

New everything, including labor (take off blower, install etc), ship & tax is #1075

Do those prices sound high, or reasonable.

Sounds really cheap! 15HP 3ph motors are $850, to $1500.00 on line.
And doesn't count any shipping or labor!

It's usually going to cost more to rewind a motor than it costs to replace it. Check eBay. I've bought several motors a good deal cheaper than I could get it locally. Best deal I found was a 7.5 HP Baldor for an I/R compressor, was $350 including shipping from eBay seller (had 100% positive feedback with a score of several thousand). The same made-in-China POS from I/R that was on it would have been $850.

Is it getting hot in the center or at one or both ends? Is it making bearing noise? They might be planning on replacing bearings (Cheap and easy) and claiming a good rate for a rewinding to make it look like a good deal.

Before replacing the motor get your amp guage on it while it is running and see how much it is drawing. Also check every connection going to the motor. Make sure all contacts are tight from contactors to any wire nuts. A few times over the years I have found loose connections on dryer motors that will cause the motor to loose a leg of power and cause it to run hot. We just found this on new motor that was only 7 months old but a connection was bad and causing problems on this 15 HP motor. All is working fine now.

What is the framed 213/5 tc? The last one I bought on line was right at 1000.00 with shipping. I put it on. Most motors under 30 hp are not worth repairing.

If it is getting hot check bearings. Also fan may be dragging. Is amp load same on All three phases. Is it tripping the overloads on starter?

I get my big motors from Zoro. Use a 20% off coupon, plus get free shipping. Last 15 hp 3 phase I got was $855. (couple of years ago)

Electrician said motor was bad, & told me several reasons why. Took blower & motor to a shop I fully trust. He basically said same thing. I guess $950 + tax labor shipping was a good deal.
