The danger to America is not Barak Obama, but a citizenry capable of entrusting a man like him with the Presidency. It will be far easier to limit and undo the follies of an Obama presidency than to restore the necessary common sense and good judgment to a depraved electorate willing to have such a man for their president. The Problem is much deeper and far more serious than Mr. Obama, who is a mere symptom of what ails America. Blaming the prince of fools should notm blind anyone to the vast confederacy of fools that made him their prince. The Republic can survive a Barack Obama, who is, after all, merely a fool. It is less likely to survive a multitude of fools such as those who made him their president.

"The American Republic will endure, until politicians realize they can bribe the people with their own money."
~ Alexis de Tocqueville (1835)

We are at that point. It is time to water the tree of liberty.

I like alexis quote--Very true!! The thing i like least about govt is the two parties. If each of us had a business where both halves of the employees fight each other and only work for their team, it would cost us so much, and we would be as unproductive as the govt. The fools is so correct--Two years ago they hated all the republicans, and now they can't stand the democrats, and vote them out. Not a very productive way to vote or run a govt.

I think the system corrupts. How many times have you seen a person get elected to office that looks like someone who will "fight city hall" but ends up being part of the problem rather than the solution? I think the idea of limited terms and making lawmakers subject to the laws they pass will help but nothing I can think of will eliminate the problem. The simple fact that some politicians repeatedly get re-elected despite their performance is probably the root of the problem. Look at Charlie Rangel. He has represented that district for 30 years and has even been censured recently by his fellow representatives. I bet he gets re-elected even if he gets thrown out.

One solution that our Founding Fathers included in original plans was that only landowners could vote. I think today if only taxpayers could vote things would be much different when it comes to being elected and holding office. Obama was elected in large part by people who were looking for handouts or a free ride. In my city they were signing people up outside welfare organizations. It was estimated that as many as 20% of the people that voted were either first time voters or ones that had not voted within 10 years. They were busing people from the inner city to polling places.

I agree rph.

"No taxation without representation"??? How about

"No representation without taxation" You don't pay taxes, you don't get a vote.

Without that welfare vote, a lot of people would never get elected.

In actuality in all of the states that have a sales tax, even these people do pay taxes. You could argue that a portion of their rent pays the property tax.

Years ago, I think it was Mississippi refused to allow blacks on the beaches because they didn't pay taxes, but the Supreme Court, ruled that they indeed do pay taxes.

Even the "smart" test to vote, which obviously makes sense, was shot down.
