Pump Stand Wash Down Button - Need to be able to use all functions....

Folks,

I have Dillings and Harris/GinSan Pump Stands. I have new GinSan ultra doors, LED 7s, with CPay.

I am phasing out my old "Express Key System". This system was very useful for starting the bays, testing functions, and keeping track of wash downs.

In the pump stand I have a GinSan solid state timer, that with the push of a button, allows me to turn on the bay....but only high pressure rinse. I can't use any of the other functions.

Is there a way to wire this switch/timer in the pump stand that will enable the whole bay and all of the functions? It would be nice to have that as an option.

Any wiring gurus, please help. : ).

If you have LED 7's in the bay, why don't you use a remote to turn on the timer. Dixmor sells a remote that activates the LED 7. It looks like a TV remote. This would allow you to have all functions.

Also I'm pretty sure you can setup a wash down card with cryptopay that you can swipe without being charged.

I have my employees use the remote and have been doing that for years. Enables all functions. I also have one of my credit cards programmed as a wash down card that I use myself. Just chat with cryptopay and they will enable it. You just have to use it once first.

Another great tip that has helped me alot is to have 2 remotes. I use the Dixmor remote myself and keep it hidden, then have a 2nd remote (cheap learning remote) that I taught only the power and number buttons to. That way they can only turn it on or off. With the Dixmor remote, it is very easy to accidentally enter programming mode and then change a setting by accident. It happened a few times before I figured out the 2nd remote idea and I haven't had an issue in years.

How did you "Teach" a cheap remote to only use the power and number buttons? I got bit several times when I let my wife use the remote! It took me a few days to tell she had the programming all messed up! Having a "Neutered" remote like this would be nice to have...

It has to be a learning remote, so I bought the cheapest learning remote. I think it was $20 or so at Wal-Mart. Then you just teach whatever buttons you want it to have. It will likely have 8 functions, so you just pick one and teach the buttons to that function.

We purchased some remotes that were very small in physical size from Randy Nix from Tacoma via contact on this forum. They have been working very well. Just to let you know that might have some advantage ... not sure.

We also have a bypass switch that the former Specialty Equip set up from the beginning of our newer equipment. Just to warn you ... there is a danger of getting distracted & not flipping it back off of bypass ... therefore giving out free washes. The customers might let you know ... ha ha ... sometimes they don't. Unplanned promotion???

With the Dixmor remote it auto goes off so that is not a problem with that.

I have the same setup only mine is a 5 minute timer.
If a customer has a problem, I crank it and give them another 5 minutes.

I drilled a 3/4 hole in the side of my coin box or meter door and put in a key switch. I hooked it from hot to the load on the rotory switch. This works real good for us.
You can get a switch where the key cannot be removed while it is turned on. This can keep employees a bit more honest. With the card or remote the timer can be turned on for friends and employee to go about their business. fwiw

Be careful.

You should have something that prevents leaving the pump stand indefinitely ON. Like someone mentioned, a spring wound timer works.

Why?

Our pump stands have BOTH a spring wound timer, and also an "ON" switch.

There have been multiple times over the last twenty years....that the ON switch was inadvertently left on.....usually during maintenance. This resulted in giving away free time.....and/or worse.....leaving the bay ON, pumping soap and water down the drain overnight. Ugh.

Now, I am adamant about NOT turning on the bay switch....unless ones car keys are also laid on top of the pump stand. Guess how many times we've gone to "lock up"....and had trouble leaving because the keys are still on the pump stand (and the bay is still energized)?

Just thinking anyone following Stuart's in case they may want to take it a step more.

For each of our 2 dog wash bays we have a key switch located over 6 feet in height within reach for any adult. Myself & my help are not perfect so they can get distracted & possibly leave the key in the switch. The switch also turns on a 24volt device that gives a choice of over 50 melodies that can be chosen & can be set to play plenty loud. So far we have not left the key in accidently & I think the melody has helped.

The melody we chose was similar to an "the standard ice cream truck melody signaling to the neighborhood kids on a hot summer day". Any other suggestions in case we want a "change of pace" on the choice of melody?

Rudy reminds us of a proven point that customers will not put the meter in off position & will leave a selection run for "who knows how long".
