I have mars 800 IDX. If I put a quarter in, it comes out the reject slot at the bottom instead of dropping into the coin box. It is not registering on the timer, so it is not being reading the coin being dropped. It worked yesterday, I swear! What are some things to looks for or adjust to get the coins to be accepted again?

There's no such thing as a "mars 800 IDX" lets try a IDX MA-800 coin acceptor. Chck the door on the side of the coin aceptor. If it' closed try reprogramming the coin acceptor. If that doesn't work toss it into the dumpster and buy another coin acceptor, we use Slugbuster and Micro-coin coin acceptors. The IDX MA-800 coin acceptors are no longer repairable.
You could also try wiping the coin path off with a Wet Towel window wipe. Sometimes the sensors get dirty.

Yep, what Randy said. My experience was if they worked after reprogramming, they usually didn't stay working and I was back on the merry-go-round a couple weeks later. Don't waste a huge amount of time on them. I think you would be pleased after switching to either of the brands he mentioned.

Would this be the equivalent slugbuster for the IDX-800? It's for my vacuums and needs to take quarters and dollars. Thanks..

I believe you would need the Slugbuster III. Unless they've made some changes, the Slugbuster II can't distinguish dollars from quarters.

I've also switched to Microcoin QL, mostly to not get any dollar coins mixed in with my quarters and tokens. Slugbuster II and III are lousy IMO. I discovered a new problem with them - twice last week someone tried to use a 50 euro cent coin in a bay, the slot is wide enough to take the coin but the reject path isn't big enough for it to return, so it jams. The same coin in a Microcoin is returned no problem. The Slugbuster II takes a dollar coin and gives a quarter credit so my customers get mad. The Slugbuster III will eventually steal the dollar coin if the customer tries it enough, so now I have dollar coins jamming the changer. I just love the "EZ" open to clear a coin path jam, so nice to have one pop open randomly a couple times a week and steal everyone's money. Oh, I can put screws in it to hold it shut? What an excellent toolless design that I have to hunt down screws for and use a tool to keep it closed.

Same issues with it popping open - use electrical tape - no tools - but tape may be considered a tool.
@Randy @I.B. Washincars order a QL this morning. Hopefully it won't be a pain to switch out. Stand by for stupid questions about wiring.

It wires differently from the IDX, but you'll use three wires instead of four. Yellow where yellow was, black where black was, blue where the lone red/green wire was, cap the unused purple wire.
They are simple to change out. What kind of timers do you have? The attachment is the installation instructions. Just follow the instructions and you can't go wrong.
We must be doing something wrong because we don’t have half the problems everyone is bitching about. We can’t get a dollar coin into our Slugbuster II’s, the coin slot isn’t wide enough. We have very few coin jams. I wipe the coin acceptor out with a little silicone on a rag, it makes the coin path real slippery. If you try that be sure to not leave any residue inside the coin acceptor, you want to have a slippery film on the plastic. I do that with all my coin acceptors. Use a large paper spring clip to keep the door closed. We very seldom have any problems with the Slug buster III coin acceptors. There was a multi-coin coin acceptor here for a while from Italy that showed a lot of promise but it disappeared after about a year or so. We have more problems with our vending machine than with the bay coin acceptors.
