Quiet vac

Hi all,
finally after 4 years my first motor in one of my vacs stopped. I replaced it with a spare one I had. Being ready to order more for all other vacs I came across this "Quiet Vac Motor". Is it worthwhile to spend tripple the money or can I just put noise reduction material inside the dome? On the other hand maybe if people don't hear a noisy vac they might think there is no suction. What do you guys reckon?

It's not actually quiet, it's just not as loud. It also has less suction.

I think there may be something to the psychology of loud vacuum equates to more suction. The loudness of a vac motor isn't something I worry about, it's the suction power that is the draw to the vac.

Has anybody put some insulation inside the dome? By doing this could the motors overheat?

Some older Adams vacs had open-cell foam glued to the inside of the dome. It didn't seem to make any difference at all in the noise level since some of the vacs had the foam come loose, and you couldn't tell which ones by listening.

I doubt any amount of insulation will make the motors overheat with the amount of air moving around.

In the past I have used rubberized undercoating that they spray under cars. Just spray the inside of the dome with a thick coat of this and it will quiet the vac down a little. You can get it at most automotive shops.

Hi Soapy, good advice. Before we shifted to combo vacs, we had all Adams vacs with the quiet (foam) and after a month or longer the center foam piece had a tendency to fall down, but the outer perimeter of the center stayed put. We wound up tig welding a small bolt in the center of the lid, used a large washer and friction nut and before reinstalling we used contact cement on the lid and the rubber. This worked very well for us.
