Have had something strange happening with the 3/8" reusable hose ends. I have been using them for years, bought through a local Goodyear hose store. For some reason during the last 6 months the hose has been blowing out of the fitting, stripping the outer rubber in the process. When I asked the guys I have been buying it from why, they said the ends are only for hydraulic hose, not high pressure water. When I said I have been using these same hose and ends for close to 20 years with no problem, they just shrugged their shoulders. Anyone else seeing this?

Reusable ends were originally made for a quick repair to get you going till you have a crimped hose made. Yes people made them work for years. Now I see the outer coating is thinner (less COST?) that is the only thing that holds the fitting on the hose. I only use crimped fittings, for one we are a Parker Dist. so the cost is LOW. A 3/8 hose 6' with 3/8 fittings is about 19.00 that's a Parker 471TC tough cover hose good for 5000 psi.
The only time we've ever had a problem with a reusable end coming off is when the hose outer jack was rotten. We don't use very many of the reusable ends anymore. About 15 years ago we bought a Parker Hydraulic Hose Crimper and use it for making up all of our hoses. You should have one on every service truck.

As long as we are on the subject of wire braid hose ends ... has anyone else besides us have had equipment dealers absolutely refuse to crimp hose ends unless the exact specific crimp or reusable hose ends are used with the specific hose they were intended for. They cite liability ... end of discussion from them ... yikes!

I was asking partially because ... just in case some of the operators who own their own crimpers have had a positive experience with more than one brand of hose etc. In the case of what MAC is putting out there ... the same question could possibly apply to re-usable ends that are made by another manufacturer than of the specific hose.
I’ve put thousands of hose ends on when I did my apprenticeship years ago and I’ve never had one blow off. I have seen the reusable hose blow off from not being installed correctly or installed on a rotten hose. I’d never try to put a resuable hose end on up in an attic, I’d pull the hose out put on a new end and pull it back or replace the hose. Our HP hose crimpers have come in real handy. I also got a low pressure hose crimper, it makes up nice ends on low pressure hoses.

I don't want to read more into your success than you are stating ... but have you always had the exact same specific brand of crimp end that was specific to the specific hose that you were using? I am thinking that the ID OD matching of fitting to hose would be the most pertinent when it comes to how successful a hose crimper would be.
