In Aug. I asked forum members about getting hot water to my 2 SS bays. I want to thank everyone who responded. This has brought more questions to mind. My JCC pump stand is plumbed wrong. My hot water is going into my resevoir, which feeds the h.p. soap and wash functions. When rinse is on a solenoid opens which feeds water from my main water line (at street pressure) directly into my pumps, bypassing the hot water in the resevoir. In order to put a tankless heater to provide hot rinse water I would have to put it right in that feed line. I am concerned about using a Rinnai because they have a flow restrictor and I am wondering if that could starve my pump. Some folks posted that they have a small resevoir after the tankless heater. Can anyone explain how that's plumbed? And is it a pressure tank? Would a gravity feed to my pumps (from the pump stand resevoir) work? Or could the pump starve due to no pressure feeding it? Any suggestions as to how to plumb this tankless heater(s). I am considering a Rannai R75LSi in each pump feed line. They flow 4 G.P.M. at a 75? rise. And 75? rise is about what I need. That's cutting it close and a resevoir would add a safety measure so my pump wouldn't starve.

One other question -- Does anyone else rinse with hot water? I could use a tankless heater to heat the SS pump stand resovoir, which would give me hot soap and wax, but cold rinse. Do you think it is a good idea to rinse with hot water? Or not necessary? Right now when I am busy I have almost no hot water available for any cycle. Maybe I am going overboard trying to provide hot water rinse? Especially with today's cost of propane for heating water?

I think if you used a hot presoak you could use a cold rinse... its what all touchless automatics do.

I know up here in the great white north that come January and February, my wash is the only one that is busy due to the fact that I have 110 degree rinse water. You're not that much south of where I am located and I know that my customers like not having their car look like an icicle when they are done rinsing.

A lot depends on your location. I was in the same boat a few years ago, but I'm in Texas so it was easier for me to decide that it was a wastage (and pointless) to use hot H2O for rinse. I use Palomas into a SS tank reservoir for hot soap/wax, and a direct cold (into each pump) for rinse.
PS - like you, my nightmare started when I was running out of hot water

Just plumb the heater inline to the tank feed. You will need to modify the Rinnai because it has a flow restrictor to let the water get heated, but you won't need to change anything on the pumps or the stand.
