Ring O Matic Clamshell pit cleaner, one of the options is a ceramic slick bed, for easier unload. We are wondering what experience people have had with the ceramic slick bed lining. In your opinion is it worth the extra money??

Diana I don't know how pricey it is, but I would think ceramic would be pretty efficient in dumping the product. I have a Ring-o-Mat pumper (probably over 25 years and it's great), but we have to use high pressure with a straight shot to cut it loose with the tank lifted as high as it will go. Otherwise it takes awhile for gravity to get it out. It's a great machine and has worked well for us.

I have a 1000t with out the ceramic dump bottom and I have to climb on the machine when dumping and shovel the bottom out every time. It has to be worth the extra to get it to dump. It is a pain to clean the bottom every time I use it. It would have to help.

First, what is the cost of the ceramic option?

I wonder what other material put on the bottom would do just as well. I would think that the "Sticking" is a issue of suction caused by the lack of "air".

I'm just shooting in the dark, because, I haven't seen the actual machine, but if you had 1/2" pvc pipe on the bottom, with holes in it and an air tank or water tank & pump that would fill the pipes with either air or water, would that break the suction enough?

Just sitting here drinking and thinking:)

We have a Ring 0 Matic and had the same problem. Dumping would require digging, prying, shoving the mud with a square-nosed shovel each and every time. Then I found a solution to the problem.

I purchased a large roll of heavy duty plastic from a farm supply store that had a width slightly larger than the length of the bottom of the pit cleaner. I then roll out the plastic and cut it to the width of the cleaner (hard to describe, I know). Each time I do a load I place this "strip" of plastic on the bottom of the cleaner, it covers the entire floor, then load the mud in the cleaner as normal. With this plastic on the bottom the mud slides right out of the cleaner with no digging nor work. Just raise the dump and the plastic sheet along with all the mud slides right out. Give it a try. Get the heavier plastic so that it won't tear nor rip. Good luck.

I called the Ring o matic salesman to further discuss the ceramic slick bed liner option. He apologized said it's in an experimental phase and he won't be able to offer that to me, and that he needed to take that off the table...

I have a question about using plastic to line the bed so the mud will slide out. Does the plastic slide out with the mud, and if so is it difficult to remove from the pile of mud?

Thanks for your input!

Yes, the plastic slides out with the mud- all at once as the bed tilts up it will get to the point where all of a sudden the whole thing slides out- mud and plastic. Then, if you wish, you can simply pull the plastic out of the pile quite easily. We don't do that as our mud is part of the landfill. It really works great.

I must have been doing something wrong. I used 4 mil plastic and if I needed to get it out from under that pile of mud it was never easy.
