Is it possible to have say dollar coins in one hopper and quarters in another and do a mixed vend?

For example:
$1 - $1 dollar coin
$5 - $3 dollar coins, $2 quarters
$10 - $6 dollar coins, $4 quarters

I know it would just be easier to vend one or the other, but for what I am trying to do, this would work the best. I checked the service manual, but it doesn't say anything specifically.

Thanks

I've been doing this for several years. You just need to program the coins value for one hopper for quarters and the other coin value for dollar coins. If you do not change the coin value the CC will not allow you to program the payout properly. After you set the left and right hopper for the correct coin value you can set the hopper payout.
It should be easy to figure out but if you need detailed instruction let me know and I will look it up, I just cannot remember it step by step as I have not needed to program it in years.

That is great news. I just read the service manual a little more closely and noticed that you can set the hopper value to whatever amount you want. Thanks for the help, I am sure it wont be that hard to reprogram.

One thing to check is make sure your hoppers are the red labeled ones to do the tokens if the tokens are bigger than a quarter. I think it says the dimensions of the coins that the hoppers will accept in the red writing. Good Luck Bill

You will need to replace one hopper with one that can dispense dollar coins.

All 6 of my Rowe machines came with the red label hoppers. The oldest is from 2000 or 2001.

Those are the good ones they take the bigger size coins. I'm assuming that your tokens are a little bigger than a quarter more like a dollar coin size.

I will have to check my hoppers, but I think it says right on there that I can dispense up to a 1.125" coin. Thanks for all the help, maybe now I won't feel like a bank =)

I don't think I could do this, but is it possible to 'stagger' the $1 payout. Basically will it dump four quarters and then dispense a dollar coin? Could I set it up this way? Just trying to look at my options here.

Do you mean you want the changer to alternate payout for each use, for example one person may get a $1 coin, the next will get four quarters? I don't see how that would be possible. With a $5, $10 or $20 you can control how many coins from each hopper are dispensed, but with a $1 it will require you to select one or the other.

Have you considered tokens? If you used tokens valued at a quarter, you could pay out three quarters and one token for each vend and at the same time stop the changer abuse, as well as make a little profit off of lost tokens.

My thoughts exactly. The price just doesn't dictate a good return on investment for me right now. I knew the staggered dispense was a long shot.

As discussed in an earlier post, with the cuurent price of tokens, it doesn't make sense to introduce a quarter token.
Last time I checked (although it's been a while) tokens could still be purchased for 12? each. As long as the combined cost of tokens and shipping keeps them under 25? each, it makes perfect sends to me, unless of course you factor in the cost of updating all your equipment to take them.

The problem with the cheapie tokens is that you run a big risk of getting someone elses tokens. I would bite the bullet and pay the difference for the high security tokens and value them at a dollar. Quarter tokens are about as out of date at the car wash as quarters themselves are.
