Rugged CCTV dvr issue

The cctvuser.com ddns server that the H.16 dvr uses has been down all weekend; not allowing remote access. I talked to Jennifer this morning and she said I could get my own ddns service from another provider. She is aware of the issues, but it is offsite, and free, not operated by them.

Has anyone done this; if so who and at what cost?

The cctvuser.com has become very unreliable. I would rather pay a little and have better reliability.

Use dyn.com ... Works great for me. I think it is $25/year.

So I just contact them and get a server registration name; then put that in the dvr and go to town?

Thanks in advance.

Right. I usually make it something like mycarwashname.com

Then tell your dvr to update your dns settings with the user name and password from your DYN account and you will be good.

Interesting....I have had the same problem since Friday also and was led to believe that mine was the only issue. I have had constant problems keeping my cameras connected when it did work. I have a dyndns account for a different service maybe I need to look into switching it over to dyndns also.

My Q-See DVR system offers a free address from their web site. To my knowledge, you didn't have to do anything to verify that you actually owned thier DVR. It is just mywhatevername.myq-see.com. Never have had an issue.

Thanks,

dyndns offers up to two names for free, however, you have to use their ending in the fqdn. Such as washmycar.podzone.net

I've been using it for years without issue.

Either a DNS service (like Dyndns) or just get a static IP address. Some carriers now have it as low as $15/mth. Having your own IP address also gives other benefits, like the ability to have your own mailserver and do bulk mailing, etc.

I have to eat crow on this one. I just checked their website and found they changed their business model and now charge for domain names. Luckily I was grandfathered in from their free days, but I'm probably living on borrowed time.

Apologize for the mis-information.
