My self service car wash facility's roof is getting old and tired looking. It's a flat metal roof with a three foot mansard around the perimeter. The purlins supporting the metal roof panels are in good shape but the panels them self are beginning to rust and will soon need to be replaced. I was thinking of just replacing the roof pans and was quoted over $20k just to do this. The contractor will leave the purlins in place and unscrew and replace the deck pans (the mansard will not need to be removed). The metal pans or roof panels are P16 (16" wide by 3" tall by 23' long) and interlock. We are looking to do approximately 90 roof panels. The cost quoted was more than I anticipated. Does anybody know the approximate cost of these roof panels? Perhaps a different solution that is cost effective? If I wanted to do this myself where would i be able to source the materials? What portion of that is the roofing metal? How heavy are the roof panels? I know they used to use a very heavy gauge material, heavy enough that I can walk on them, but a lot of newer washes use 26 ga. steel which would be a lot cheaper.
If you do it yourself, you can get the metal at a custom sheetmetal supply. The "tongue and groove" stuff is pretty cheap in a light gauge.

If the Mansard stays, do you really need a roof. Do you have doors?
