Shipping a combo vac

Bolt it to a pallet and wrap it well with bubble wrap and cardboard. You might check some stores to see if they'll let you have the stretch wrap they cut off their received pallets - a dozen or so layers of that will do a good job of padding.
 
So after it is packaged and secured to a pallet...what next. Who makes the shipment? Do you just start calling freight trucking companies for quotes?
 
Pretty much, unless you know someone with a commercial account that can help you get a better rate. I used to ship a lot of large items like that, but we only worked with local companies. UPS does freight, but it will be one of the more expensive options.
 
After you get it all secured for shipping, bolted to a pallet, bubble wrapped, boxed up or however you want to ship it call a freight Forwarder for a quote, like these guys Freight Quote.

Be prepared for sticker shock, it is expensive to ship anything heavy. They charge by the pound and by the mile. The last Hamilton DRS changer I bought cost almost $750 to have shipped from Toledo Ohio to Seattle.
 
I have used ABF freight a few times. I shipped about a 250lb skid from the Louisville dock delivered to the customer's wash about a month ago for $183. I think they knock off $20 on either/both ends if it is dropped off or picked up at the dock. Is your customer near Louisville? The dock is right at the exit ramp of the interstate.

The way I found out about them was when I bought a combo vac off ebay. It was just bolted to a pallet, but not wrapped or padded in any way.
 
I used Uship to send a tire brush to NJ from Ohio last year. They were about half the price of the other major shipping companies. The deal went down as quoted with no problems. I would use them again.

Ric,

I have used www.freightquote.com a few times & the account person that I worked with on the available connections ... happened to be very good. They even seem to be able to explain other factors along with the lowest possible cost.
