Shut down by the city because of sand in the sewer

I am sorry I thought I posted an update on this. The city found a VERY large grease plug in the line. They let me reopen to flush the line after the plug was removed. I have not heard a word from them after that.
OOOOOHHHHHHHHHH; so it WASN'T YOUR SAND?!?!? Did they apologize????????????????

car wash trap 1.jpg

I have traps like everyone else,
then I built these for my bays a few months ago...
The drain in the center is 1/2 inch lower than the depth of this shallow trap
The sand flows into the shallow trap and the water exits thru the center drain
every two weeks we pull the grate up and clean the sand out with a flat shovel
Best thing since sliced bread !!!!!!

With a pit that small we'd be shoveling it out every other day. Our pits are 13" wide, 16" deep and run the width of the bay. We have to shovel them at least once a week.

Mine has only one central pit, the other bays have a catch basin under a small grate. I have to clean them out once a week, but it's pretty easy. The central pit costs $500 once a year to get cleaned. It's too big for that cover/trap, but I like the idea. How did you make it?
