I am installing a credit card system for my self serve (Etowah Valley Equipment). I am doing the "count up" method. I need to have a sign that tells my customers how to use the credit card equipment, and especially to turn the knob to the "Stop" position when finished. If they don't turn it off at the end, it will time out and end up charging their credit card $20 or $25 dollars (wherever I set the max.) Can those of you who have the "count up" credit card systems in your SS bays please tell me what language you use for your signage? I would very much appreciate your advice and assistance.

I don't think you need to do anything regarding the "stop" position. I have WashGear which requires the customer to push the stop button and it only happens once in a great while that a bay times out. It is my understanding that the EVE system shuts off after the switch is in the stop position for so many seconds (great idea, Jim). I think you are trying to solve a problem that probably won't exist.

We have a Hamilton D.A.N., and a lot of people leave it running. I've noticed that they always turn the switch to the "STOP" position but don't press the separate "STOP" button, so I programmed a basic PLC to trigger the transaction end when all features are off for 8 seconds.

I had a leftover output, so I wired it to an existing air bank to purge the line clear after one minute of the bay being idle, helps the tire cleaner or presoak hit the gun in less than two seconds when the bay is started on one of those features.

Do you have any signage at all? If so, what does it say? I was thinking that I needed something that showed the Visa/Mastercard/Discover logos and then had a 1...2....3... step by step instructions, which ended with something that said they need to put it in "Stop" to stop the charges. I just don't know how to word this. Your help is appreciated.

Here is the sign I use:

Instructions for card use:
1. Insert and remove card to start
2. Press illuminated button to stop transaction
3. Receipts avaliable at card dispenser
Visa MC Loyalty Card pics here

I had to make a label to put on the doors pointing to the illuminated button. Your customers will think that the stop button stops the time. I would aslo recommend setting your max time for a lower amount, somewhere around $12 to $15 and raise it in a couple months if you see alot of your customers are double swiping or the max limit is being meet at a high percentage. If not you could set yourself up for a lot of credit card disputes or customers calling and wanting their money back.

as long as you get the point across, the exact wording on your signage will only matter for a small group of people. of course, it is this exact group that won't read the signs anyway, but rather bitch and complain about the racket you are running as they call the bbb. i've got a sticker almost touching my meterbox stop button, signs and instructions everywhere, and i even used a glitter highlighter to circle the words and then i drew line with an arrow pointing to the correct stop button. the only thing i need is a big flashing 1950's hotel "vacancy" type sign, but i think i'll still have a few who don't follow the directions. funny thing is that most don't even notice the $15 charge on their statements. i don't correct the charges hoping that they will call so i can apologize and explain it to them. it rarely happens.

The only sign I added is placed over the changer. It says, "Need Change? All bays now accept MC/Visa same as cash". On my WashGear system, it's set to max out at $10. In a typical week, there's probably one or two that max out at $10. Never had 1 complaint or question about it! Not one.

Credit Card Signage

All,

On the GinSan meterboxes we use the "End" button for ending a running charge. We considered labeling it "Stop" but we already have that on the meterbox as a listed function and did not want to create confusion.
The GinSan meterbox gives you instructions on how to use the credit card system in the running charge form but I have recently created a signage for a customer in CT to assist his customers. The sign basically reads: Credit card patrons: Failure to push the "end" button after washing your vehicle will result in a 20 dollar maximum charge to your credit card. He had numerous people failing to push the end button in the begining, but after the addition of the signs he has had no problems and his average wash utilizing the running charge is over $8.00.

I am using the etowa vally system and mine is set to do 3.00 for the first swype and 1.00 for each additional swype. the max thay can spend is 25.00. so there is no time out needed. it makes you keep feeding the machine as if you were using quaters. I have had it not for 2 months and i see the need for sinage also. Mine just show the logos and say Credit card accexped than a small sign over the meter box that explains the fisrt swype and how much is charged.
