Soapy's New Detail Shop

My wife spent everyday for a month rehabbing the building with me but I think she did most of the work.. Finally got the rest of our equipment in this week and business has been good and we are learning everyday. I used to detail out in the wash parking lots years ago and having a good building setup is so nice. THe building is next to one of the washes so it was a natural fit. IF you ever have to paint a floor get a good floor grinder to etch the floor mechanically and then use a epoxy paint. First time in 20 years the paint has actually stuck to the floor.

Looks Great! I'm actually thinking about trying to buy some property behind me so that I can do the same thing. Keep up the good work.

Nice looking facility with impressive exteriors. What's missing is the action. How much manpower does it take to achieve that finish in 30 minutes or less. What is the average man-hrs spent on an interior, exterior and complete detail?

The demand for detailing seems to be growing despite the economy. Better to make what you have look it's best. Best of Luck!

We have 2 people at the center at all times and I can call up people from my other wash locations if things get real busy. 2 people can do a car in 30 minutes pretty easy. I got a lot of the info and training from detail plus on the express detail logistics. What has surprised me is that so far people are wanting more of the traditional detail services like shampoos and hand waxing. Express detailing is a new concept here and people are going to need to be educated on it. After 21 straight days of rain in June we are seeing the express side of things start to pickup. The nice thing about a detail shop is the cost for equipment and chemicals is very affordable.

Soapy; well said. Price your f.s. services accordingly.

Don't be surprised if f.s. keeps growing; with people keeping their cars longer, the demand is rising. A professional, clean, nice, insured shop that produces great details is something many customers appreciate.

I guess I missed the "express" component. When we do a complete interior service, it's taking 5-7 man/hrs., but we like to keep the vehicle as long as possible to control the drying process. This usually isn't a problem for most customers who drop off on the way to work and pick up after.
Wheww, 21 straight days of rain - I thought we had it bad. Was the detail shop busy at least?
Best of luck!
