Solo Or Team Bottom-Line

While most new detailers test the waters of professional detailing by remaining a one-person show, most eventually progress to team processing.

Of the solo detailers, is the choice to work alone simply a cost issue... or something else?

And, for those who have evolved into a solid team processor, how has it helped your bottom-line?

Team processing keeps employees fresh to detail more cars per day. My teams switch off drivers/passenger sides so it is equal (ish).

I could see how a solo detailer in a warm climate could make a decent living, but not in Northeast; little money in detailing 1/15~3/15.

As one who started solo, the team approach is far less taxing once training and qc issues are addressed. However, the potential for increased production has never really come to fruition. Two cars in a day for 2-3 techs was about all we could comfortably manage without cutting corners. There's a ton of interest both in services and from detailers interested in joining our team, so we may be a bit more aggressive in our pursuits.

BTW, Steve, thanks for your posts regarding the Flex XC3401 VRG. I am about to pull the trigger on one and hope to put some super shines on our exteriors this season. Any preference on pads (brand or source)?

Pads & Product System Compatibility

You'll love the Flex.

As far as teams, they are the best way to reach optimum overall performance. Be sure to rotate sides for less fatigue and more effective quality control.

Pads and product should go hand-in-hand when developing a system. The same pad with different product will result in different performance. Meguiar's has a good system, as do others. It's okay top experiment with mix and match but keep track of which pad & product do best for you... and dedicate the pad with a code marked on back, same with product. It's just good housekeeping. Climate, humidity, and buffer setting will vary from place to place; there are no real universals. You'll know when you work them. Your guide is your visual DOI (distinction of image). Trust Yourself.
