Strange scratches - not sure what would cause

Hello All,

I came across a customer who believes our express wash caused these scratches - we cannot see them on the way in, or out for that matter when checking over our camera system - I have seen similar scratches before on the headlights of my personal vehicle - but not on any vehicles that have come out of our wash. Not sure if anyone else has seen these, or would know what could possibly cause it?

All of our brushes are neoglide, and we do not have any buffing pads.

That's paint checking. The paint is shot Your customer is either an idiot or trying to scam you.

There is no way that any type of car wash material would do that. It is impossible.

That's the clear coat on top of the paint starting to peel like a sunburn. It can be called "spider webbing" or "cobwebbing" too.
It's usually on the upper surfaces of the vehicle, the hood, the top of the cabin, and rear deck lid (trunk).
It's caused by sun exposure and/or cars that frequently get overnight condensation that mixes with road grime /dust and then it damages the clear coat over time.
It's hard to believe the owner didn't know about this prior to visiting your wash but a simple education from a few web sites or a trip to a friendly paint shop might put this to bed. (We know it gets a lot of sun because the headlight shown is badly sun damaged too!)

What is year and mileage of that car? Is it mainly on the leading edge of the car or all over?

Crows feet is clear coat failure, definitely not done by the wash. GM is notorious for this.
