Apparently a driving force in getting Toyota to take action was pressure from the NHTSA which apparently took longer than many would have liked.

So what does it take to get NHTSA to motivate Jeep?

An interesting article on PCC website yesterday about one guy who says the Jeep acceleration problem is caused by all the motors in a carwash creating interference with the drive by wire sensors. Not sure I agree with it but it is something to think about.

I think maybe the cars have too many electronics in them, and have too many possibilities for error. I bought a Nissan Altima Hybrid this fall. A fast (200hp),
and 35mpg city car, and looks fairly neat. On ice- it takes control -no spinning of the tires, try and do a spin the vehicle stability takes control. Try to rev the engine in neutral--nothing- stays at idle. I love the car, but it is extremely sophisticated, and the electronics and hybrid are all Toyota, same with a couple of fords hybrids, Why no problems under a different name.

Always tough fighting Uncle Sam. Involved in one now from a real estate closing where HUD was the Seller. The UD guy is telling me what the contract says isn't what it means. I told him I would be happy to let a judge decide.

What does it take? I believe it takes almost absolute certainty as to the root cause of the problem plus enough political pressure to offset the efforts of lobbyists. In other words, good luck.

I heard from a someone that Toyota should have designed the accelerator so if the brake is touched there is no way acceleration can occur simultaneously. A fail safe interlock if you will. Supposedly other manufacturers have accomplished that.

They are a lot more sophisticated, but GOD do I love the bells and whistles, until I need to pay for a repair. I would like my Z to have more skid control, it doesn't take much to spin it out on rain or snow.
