Switched to count up today

Today we switched from count down to count up in the bays. We also dropped the max per swipe down to $15 because of concerns of people not pressing the button and driving off. We left the default in the LED6 so it shows the money counting up vs showing the time counting up. Besides Mac has anyone else switched from count down to count up? If so what percentage of an increase per ticket did you get? I'm going to guess a 25% increase for us but I could be way off either way. Our current average CC bay time is just under 10 minutes. One bay has a dryer and we are going to hopefully install them in the other two soon. I have read here that count up with dryers is killer.

I installed CC swipers with count up last June. I've probably had over a two dozen max out on my limit of $20. Only one customer complained and I refunded the 17.50 (2.50 to start). Some are lucky enough to have me there to teach them how to use it (they seem to not read signs). All in all, CC usage is averaging 25% and seems to be going up over these winter months. Seeing a LOT of new customers even though I'm in a tiny rural town. In the process of adding underbody wands (we have a lot of mudders here) and am expecting a boost in time with that. In the spring I might add the SS dryers.

Love count up $$$. Customers are more comfortable knowing how much money they are spending and will spend more when they become accustomed to the new process. I would recommend (based on other posters here)programming the timer to say "press flashing button to end transaction" and changing the stop decal to Off. Only issue I have is that the Fragramatics timers are different and I need to swap to Dixmor and convert to LED6 timers so that everything on the lot works the same. Regrading combination vacuums, you can't use different times/prices on LED6s during count up, but 98% of my usage is vacuum anyway so I really don't care.

Best decision ever made wish I would have done this years ago.

Good idea on the custom scrolling message. I think the factory default is something like "press stop to end charges". I'm sure that will be confusing to some. Our dead position is just left blank because we think that a stop decal there is also confusing. I would like to figure out a way to count up on combo vacs but fragrance is so expensive. Because we are not count up on combos then we need to keep regular vacs count down. We do have a $2 min start on all of them though.

Could we burn up a pump if someone drove off and it ran without the trigger being pulled for say 20 or more minutes? Cat 623s.

We have always done count up at our self-serve car washes, so I cannot do a vs. count down. However, I feel it's easier for the customer to understand that way.

I need to switch a couple washes from washcard to cryptopay. I believe my swipers are only a few years old but they don’t allow for count up. Also the 5% fee from washcard right off the top is a hard hit each month.

We programmed the scrolling count up message to read "Tap Flashing Button To Stop!". We like Greg's custom message but wanted it a tad shorter so it reads quicker. Our manual states that only up to 31 characters can be used but the newer timers it is a lot more. (64 maybe?) It was raining or threatening rain/snow most of the day yesterday so there were only a few purchases. None were the max $15 so they must have figured it out. I did see a guy swipe his card and then immediately start pecking at the button even though we have a fluorescent orange sign stating we have new instructions with an arrow pointing to them. Both signs are bordering the meter box. I assume that is why Cryptopay prevents ending the transaction until about the 30 second mark. It is so weird to see the money count up on the display now and the way it scrolls on the LED6 it looks like the old rotary dial gas pumps. Uh Oh. You can now see that I must be "old".

If you are concerned about this you can always install "thermal relief valves" to your by-pass lines.

Yes.

The cart attendants at my golf course would frequently "forget" to turn off the gravity feed pressure washer...with a fully closing gun.
I offered to install an automatic shut-off system but their budget didn't allow for that expense.
I added the thermal valve as an alternative solution. I haven't had to replace the pump's seals going on 4 years now.

It does not say at what temperature they open on the pdf. Out of curiosity ... about what temperature do they open at? Some pumps have higher temperature seals.
