There are 100’s of products listed and promoted in any car wash catalog that operators can purchase for placement in the vending machines at their wash sites. There are new products or updated designs being created and promoted constantly to add to those already available. I think we have the numbers to prove that the sale of vending products at a wash can be a significant income producer if the vending center is located in the right place and a basic product mix is offered to wash customers.

Over many years of experience and with help from the large catalog companies, the basic product mix for high volume vending sales can be distilled down to the 13 items listed below:

Armorall Protectant Pack--Wet Towel
Armorall Cleaner Pack--Blue Huck Cloth Towel
Armorall 4 oz Protectant Pump--Black Ice Fragrance
Armorall Tire Foam Spray Can--New Car Fragrance
Glass Cleaner--Vanillarama Fragrance
White Paper Towel--Strawberry Fragrance
Blue paper Towel

I am sure some of you will take exception to this listing of a basic product mix, because every wash site has its own “unique list” of products that sell in volume. Some of the above list may not sell well at your particular wash site, but, looking at the big picture, these products produce high sales volume numbers with a minimum of inventory. Some operators think a good case can be made for other vending products also; micro-fiber towels, terry cloth towels, bug and tar cleaners, other fragrances, and unique specialty items.

Among the unique specialty items, there is a growing phenomenon associated with vending that is really beginning to be accepted in operator’s minds; the vending of gift cards, VIP cards, or token note packs that customers can use at a wash site. This is certainly a high priority for some operators that can see increased revenue at a wash with the high dollar value of these cards & packs, but it is not in the basic vending product category. It is more of a labor saving idea and a convenience for the wash site customer. I don’t think it should be on the “top selling vending items” list, but it may be someday.

The bottom line here is, if a vending machine is set up to vend this basic list, the vending sales volume of these products should bring the operator a good ROI for the machine and increase wash site revenues significantly.

As a self-service customer, I would like to see vending products like;

Windsheild washer fluid (i.e. Rain-X)
Quart of engine oil
Gallon of engine coolant
Compressed air for tire filling
Bottled water
Small container of hand wax (i.e. carnauba or polymer)
Microfiber polishing towel
Snack and soda machine
Pay bathroom

None of the self-service washes in my market offer these items

Robert,

Windshield Washer Fluid--If quart size or smaller, can be done
Quart of engine oil--Done that already--Didn't sell
Gallon of coolant--Quart OK, Gallon too big
Compressed air--Can be done
Bottled water --Already done
Hand Wax--Can be done
Microfiber polishing towel--Already done
Snack and soda machine--Snacks don't sell because of "Sell by certain date" problems, sodas do sell and is already done
Pay bathroom--Won't fit into vendor!!!!

Almost everything on your list has been tried except the bathroom, but if it doesn't sell------??????

The items listed are for high sales volume, not a "Wish List!"

Why not buy one of those washes in your market and try these items. I will be happy to fix you up with a vendor that will vend all these items except for the bathroom!!!

Wild Cherry Fragrance #4

I gave my 13 best selling vending items above which included four fragrances: Black Ice, New Car, Vanillarama, and Strawberry. After some consultations with a big supplier in the heartland, the numbers he gave me would indicate that Wild Cherry is a better selling fragrance than Strawberry, so I stand corrected!!
