I did check the voltage and it was 124 volts coming in and 27 volts coming out. I checked several vacs and they are all the same. I did swap a timer with another vac last week and it didn't make a difference.

Sounds like you've just about covered all the obvious! Do you have a good ground?

Lol, that's the problem. I wish there were more logical things for me to check. I don't mind replacing/trying anything if it would actually work. What makes it even harder to troubleshoot is that it always works fine after a reset of the breaker, so I have to come back after an hour or so to see if it quit again. I will double check the ground, but there has to be something that I'm missing. Or maybe just a ghost :)

I just wanted to update on the bill acceptor issue I've had. After the last time I posted, I went out and checked it as I had been doing that daily, and it worked! I left tape over the entrance of the acceptor just in case, and then checked it again the next day. It still worked, so I removed the tape and let people use it. It was fine for the next five days, and I was about to come and post an update, but figured I should check it again first. Unfortunately, it had quit working again. I have checked it for the past 3 days and it still doesn't work. When it had started working, I hadn't done anything different, so not sure what changed. Either way, I'm back to square one :(

This is a long shot & may be way off ... but possibly the tape over the entrance ... then 5 days working thereafter ... is giving us a clue. Could light (including sunlight angle) possibly be effecting something electronically within the MEI acceptor in such a way that it recovers after being away from light for whatever length of time? I have had extremely good experience whenever talking to MEI tech people ... maybe they can give a clue to what could be the root of the problem in such a baffling "hard to isolate" case. I have heard that electronic components can weaken & become more susceptible to "outside whatever" as those components age. There are a lot of pop machines located outside where the sun really hits them ... like possibly one of our vacuums .. so if it could effect some older MEI acceptors ... one of MEI best tech people could possibly be aware of it.

mjwalsh, I appreciate your response, but unfortunately that can't be the reason as I've had tape on it for almost a month and it didn't make it work before this five day stretch. I've also replaced the bill acceptor twice and it has the same issue, so it can't be the bill acceptor. I did call MEI and they were baffled as well. Suggested the same things that I had tried. His first thought was a bad ground, but I checked that from the vac all the way to the ER and it seems fine. He was going to ask other techs and call me back, but never did.
