We use 1990 Hamilton ACW units to control the touchless automatic. They are outside in block bunkers---we were a Super Wash back when- they have 4 choices and take $1 $5 $10 plus tokens. We have updated with Wash Gear credit card system. Our biggest beef is the display is hard to read--the brightness has been sun damaged? What options do we have?-What would work if we wanted to upgrade? and at what cost?

Check with Randy from this forum. Dixmore has some bright red LED displays that can be retrofitted into most Hamiltons. I did all of mine a couple or years ago and they have worked great and are very easy to read from a long ways away.

Upgrade to the new LED display from Dixmor. We were in on the ground floor of this and they have been great. Only a couple hundred bucks, better than thousands for new autocashiers, especially if there in concrete bunkers!!

SW Indiana melon fields.
You don't say what model your ACW is. If it is an ACW-2 or 3 you may be out of luck. The ACW-4 came out about 1990 which can be retrofitted with the Dixmor display providing you don't have the 2 line display, most likely you do. Get the answers to these questions and by then maybe Randy will have sobered up and will see if he can fix you up.

I would also check ebay. You get some good deals every now and then. Unitec has a neat feature that allows you to sell your wash at places such as gas stations, and you don't need to run a wire or cable to the store.

That would be pretty awesome. Is it like a "cloud" feature where it is done wirelessly?

The explanation that Unitec gave me was that all the codes are encrypted. Other than the connection for the credit card to function, it's all done by the encryption. Whatever, the thing works. I put it on two WashSelect2 about 6 months ago and it's been fine. Gives you the ability to sell your washes from places miles away.

Sometimes, the main problem is the faded faces and the cloudy plate over the reader. Order a new face from Hamilton. It does wonders to improve the appearance of the ACW. Mark

If you have old hamilton face plates that cause glare buy a head light restoration kit. It will polish the face and make things easier to read. The dixmore upgrade is the way to go IMO.

If you ever actually see the conversion digital read out from Randy, you will know what to do instantly. It is far better than the Hamilton original. Put all new Visa and other stick on information on the Hamilton and add the bright readout and it will look really good.

poor acw display

I have pulled all of the plastic sun gard on old displays---you have to split the case to do this---helped some. Plan on installing new display installed on old acw controller next week--took time to make up new sign with highest price at top ----big changes are a comin-

You NEVER want to remove the blue UV filter from the front of the Hamilton ACW-4/5 controller. When the UV filter turns dark replace it with another UV filter. The UV filter protects the fluorescent display from the Sun’s UV rays. Once you remove the UV filter the fluorescent display will punk out pretty fast. The best option is to replace the display with a Dixmor display.
