Vac shuts off after 5 seconds

I have a 7yr old Industrial Vac unit that has been giving us problems. After the customer inserts the correct number of quarters it starts up and runs for 5 seconds then shuts off.

I thought it was the IDX controller, so I installed a new one only to have the same problem. Does anyone have any ideas on what else I should check / change to fix this problem??

Does it have a mechanical acceptor? It will do that if the leads are connected to the common and normally closed instead of common and normally open.

Is there a vac driver in the top of the vac or a relay

there might be a contactor up at the top by the motors or down inside where the acceptor is, check to make sure it is not burned out or mostly burn out by the sound of it.

I am assuming that you use mercury relays to offload the higher amperage vac motor current. If so, to save time ... I would take my Klein dual voltage non contact voltage tester on the wires to see at what point in your wiring where you are getting the drop off of voltage. If that was not conclusive enough, I would go after the accessible terminal with my Fluke multimeter to further isolate where the drop off is occurring.

If it is not one of those horrible intermittent occurrence type of events ... troubleshooting should go pretty straight forward.
