Does anyone have any experience with hanging Vapor Tight lights on the wall? We are considering getting rid of our fluorescent wall packs and going with a (2) 4-5 foot vapor tight LED in opposite corners in each bay. My concern is if there is any issue with hanging them on a wall? Most installations deal with suspending them from the ceiling or flush mounting them to the ceiling.

I have 4-4' vaportight fixtures with led bulbs in them in each bay. I have 1 in each bay that comes on with a timer, and the other 3 come on with a omron plc. When timer is running they come on and have a 10 minute courtesy time after timer stops. The fixtures are mounted on the wall and provide plenty of light. Check out KB Lighting in Philadelphia, they have unbeatable prices.

This past summer I took out the old Hubble fixtures (2 each bay) and installed the 4' (3) bulb vapor tight fixtures, (4) each bay. I did something similar to pgrzes where all the lights come on using a PLC with Astronomical on/off timing capabilities. At 10pm, 2/3 of all the bulbs turn off and (4) bulbs stay lit for security (1) bulb per fixture in each bay. When someone starts a bay, the remainder of the lights in that bay come on. When time runs out, all bulbs stay on for 5 minutes then goes back to security....4 bulbs per bay (72w total per bay).

I got mine from Conservationmart.com for $36.50 each....

To install horizontally on the wall, I used Tapcons to install the brackets instead of using the supplied hardware. (Screws and plastic wedge anchors are cheap)….Using Tapcons seem to be adequate and easy to install....

Is it better to buy the fixtures with LED Lamps versus the LED circuit board already installed? I would assume with the bulbs you could swap them out if they failed. 1000bulbs.com has these for $78/light. I like the 5 year warranty, but it appears a lot of manufacturers are offering that.

The 3 bulb fixtures I got from Conservationmart.com are LED ready. I have purchased the 4' tube bulbs (Daylight or 5000K-6000K) from various places for about $4-5 a tube. That's only about $50 per fixture with bulbs. I put up the same fixture 7 years ago over my changer. Not a single bulb failure so far. So I guess it all depends on what your electrical skills are as to the direction you go. I like the ability to be able to change bulbs if they go out...I may not live that long though! LED's have a pretty long life expectancy... There is some wiring you'll have to do if you go the route I did. Also be aware, some bulbs are positive on one end (Both pins), neutral on the other end (both pins). Some bulbs have both positive and neutral on one end (one pin is positive, the other pin is neutral). The other end is does not get wired at all. So the tombstones have to be wired correctly depending on the bulbs you get or you could possibly let the magic smoke out.

I buy the bulbs that are positive one end, neutral on the other end. Most of the documents on the sales ads tell you how the bulbs are configured for wiring.
