It’s difficult and awkward to answer your question within a forum format without having the response look like a sales pitch or an assault on other manufacturers. Having stated that, please know that the response below is intended to focus on our design versus our design compared to a competitors.
When Washworld redesigned the VS2 measuring system, we wanted to ensure that it was engineered to be customer friendly, accommodated for elements in the wash environment, and provided consistent measurements. After a few iterations and lots of real world testing, we incorporated several subtle designs that, we believe, are best for consistent measuring. An example of one simple concept that really makes a difference is the use of a “profile reducer” for the purpose of positioning our overhead ultrasonic sensor face (Pepperl & Fuch brand) perpendicular to the floor instead of parallel to the floor. The profile reducer is incorporated into the mounting bracket and simply allows the ultrasonic beam to be reflected 90 degrees from the face of the sensor. Positioning the ultrasonic sensor face perpendicular to the floor eliminates the water droplets that are often hanging from a sensor face (that is parallel to the floor), resulting in measurements that are much more consistent. The Razor has one ultrasonic sensor mounted on the carriage behind the fiberglass shroud which senses through a hole in the fiberglass. Its sole purpose is to locate the rear of the vehicle. Regardless of vehicle size (full size truck or Smart Car), the technology used in our overhead sensor provides consistent placement of the spray arch at the rear of the vehicle.
Vehicle parking within the wash bay is accomplished, the same way we’ve done it in the past, using tried and proven photoeyes for both stop and backup instruction for the customer. The photoeyes are mounted in adjustable/pivoting powder coated aluminum enclosures (white) and fastened to the wall mounted brackets (or floor mounted bracket) using stainless steel clamps. The adjustable enclosures facilitate easy photoeye alignment (by the distributor or the customer) and accommodate a wide variety of bay widths.
The passenger and driver sides of vehicles are measured using ultrasonic sensors manufactured by Pepperl & Fuch. The side sonars are also housed in a powder coated aluminum enclosure (white) and are fastened to either a wall mounted or pedestal mounted bracket. The side sonars also feature the profile reducer, but in this application its use is to minimize how far away from the wall the sensors project away from the wall.
Of course, we will be making a retrofit upgrade kit, so that previous Razor models can be upgraded to the new design.
