I have a dual tank system. Tank 1 is putting out hard water around 10. Tank 2 is working fine putting out 1 or 2 hard max. I have watched it cycle 3 or 4 times and all cycles look to be working fine. I put new resin in both tanks in 2018. Can the resin in a tank get stuck and not clean? If so how do I clear it?

I assume you mean a twin tank alternating softener, right?

So you've put Tank 1 through a manual regen and each phase of the regen is working properly?

Have you done any maintenance on the softener valve? What valve(s) do you have?

Super busy last 2 days and I had similar issues with 1 of my 2 tanks. My problem was 1 valve was leaking. I didn't hear the leak because of the constant noise in the equipment room. I keep a spare valve disc kit on hand for that reason. 34 year old Ecowater system that will likely get replaced as I am adding a 2nd inbay soon.

Depending on your chlorine levels coming into the softener and what type of resin you used in 2018, it could be bad. Most resins last between 5-7 years from my experience (on city water). It's also possible that the controller is just not set properly or it's not doing a proper regen. How hard is your water coming in?
