I have a SC34RL-DA (essentially a two dual hopper machines in one). Because I'm in Canada, one hopper on each side is for $1 coins, and one hopper on each side for $2 coins).
So this what is happening. On $20 bill changes, a customer is to get nine $2 coins and two $1 coins). But every fifth $20 bill it short changes the customer of one $2 coin. The hopper is equipped with an optical pickup and should shut down when the it over or under pays and log the error. It never notices the missed coin. It also seems that the $2 hopper has a bot of difficulty dispensing the coins
With essentially two whole machines, I have the luxury of swapping between them to try and catch the problem equipment. No matter what I swap (bill acceptor/brains), hoppers, cabling power box, power filter, etc), it still does it.
Now tonight I may have figured it out. This it seems started happening after a power outage last week. I think that when the power box has to power two hoppers, it has problems (the power box feeds the hoppers and is controlled by the bill acceptor/brains...it does not feed the hoppers unless coins need dispensing, likely for security reasons). If I only dispense from one hopper, it seems ok (so far). Tomorrow when I get another pair of hands to help, I will try and make some voltage and current measurements to see if I can confirm the power box. Unfortunately the owners manual has very little info and is badly written.
