I'm looking at a well-running SS car wash that is about two hours from my home. I doubt I'll go through with it but it made me wonder what folks consider too far to own a car wash if you have someone local to run the day-to-day.
It depends. If you have a reliable attendant who can fix basic things, you might only need to visit it once a week. I used to work for a guy who owned a car wash just an hour away. He only went there once a week to pull money, but he owned the repair company and distributor I worked for. I did all the repairs which he got at cost, and of course all his parts and supplies were at cost. He'd net $100k/year.
