Which Procon pump?

I needed to replace the procon pump for my FB on my JC pump stand yesterday, so I replaced it with one I had purchased as a backup. When I turned it on, it pulsed like crazy and seemed like the round end where the procon sticker is was about to burst out. I then replaced it with an older Procon that I had removed off of another system and it worked fine. Question is, what procon pump model do I actually need? I am only running my FB at around 40 PSI. The one on there now does have an adjustment screw on the side. I don't see any other differences. What's that screw for anyway?

According to Procon, it's an internal relief to prevent overpressurizing the pump. If you put a pump on with no relief valve, it was overpressurizing. FWIW I try not to use the internal relief even though they seem to last a good while if that's the regulator.

The 102 series should be plenty for tire cleaner/foam brush and should run at least four bays on the presoak. I never replace Coleman unit Procons with the larger model.

So basically add a separate relief if I want to use the procon I have? I have models with the internal relief on 5 other pumps and haven't had any issues in years. It is a 6 bay wash, though I don't think all 6 would ever use the brush at the same time. What went wrong with the pump I replaced was that the motor shaft where it connects to the pump wore out into a circle instead of the rectangle shape it was. In turn, the pump shaft wore out to match the shape and basically stopped turning. Pump works fine otherwise.

I prefer to use a regulator and plumb the bypass either to the pump inlet or back to the tank.

Procon changed their pump model numbering system a few years ago so it’s kind of confusing as to what pump to replace with what. There will be numbers stamped on the back of the pump. What is that number? You definitely want to use a pump with a built in relief valve, if you over pressurize the pump you run the risk of destroying the carbon seals inside the pump. For foam brush you don’t need much of a pump. A 1304 pump would be fine. All those letters and numbers in the model number tell you what the pump is intended to be used for and what the relief valve is set at and the type of seals that are in the pump.

Side note, Coleman switched from procon brand to fluid o tech a long time ago. I use them now, they're usually a little cheaper. You can also adjust the pressure on those without removing the acorn nut.

I do have the Fuid O Tech on one JC stand. I had a couple of older pumps that I can use as backups, but I'll probably go with those when I need to buy another. No issues with them so far.

On this pumpstand, just wondering if anyone has canned the mixing tanks and pumps and switched over to dosatrons? A few friends of mine all use dosatrons and just city pressure with a backup pressure tank. Would be nice to eliminate 4 or 5 more pumps. and all the tanks.

It can be done, but you need good, consistent water pressure or your functions will vary throughout the day.

I know a couple people who use Dosatrons or MixRites. They seem to have more trouble with the pumps than I've ever had with tanks and FloJets.
