Dear Soapy:
More recollections about Bob Clements:
1. I think he pioneered the unlimited time concept. If memory serves his data showed that it was the most help on what he called "under performing" washes. When presed about possible use at my washes - - all doing well above average per bay - - he admitted he would not do it.
2. I think he also converted many self-service bays to quick lubes. Here again these were washes where all bays were seldom used but his accounting data seemed very strong. I never tried that either.
3. Finally my experience was nothing like his. When he told you he had to have 20 washes to make as much as he had made with five because of increases in overhead that was not true for me. Each time I added a wash, gross and net revenues went up and up. Though I never got anywhere close to his size - - he once said he had to drive 1300 miles to see all his locations.
I'd still like to hear drom him about what caused the bankruptcy that Pitzer reported.
