We have tested the Wickets (IDX) RF reader system on our vendor and it vends the product without a problem. There is still some "tweaking" to do to the software so the vending sequence is smooth and logical. We will have the Wickets hardware at WCA (#350) to demonstrate to operators and IDX will be selling the system for bay meters, etc. in their booth.
The Wickets system is essentially a Smart Card with a specific dollar value programed onto it. There is a "Hot Spot" on the card that is placed over the RF reader to activate the vendor or bay meter and then deduct the proper dollar value from the card after the service is provided to the customer. Creating the initial dollar value and the revaluing of the card is being provided exclusively by Standard in their changer that accepts bills or credit cards.
We are getting closer and closer to a total car wash systems that will have only one piece of equipment that will have any real money in it. Even this will be minimal if credit cards are used to place value on smart cards. This should remove much of the motivation for vandalism at any wash.
