The measurement eye is the one inside the gantry that looks diagonally across. It is about chest height on the drivers side, and knee height on the passenger side. As you replace the eyes buy the ones with the long cable. The connectors are what causes most of the problems with these.

Thanks, wondering whats the eyes inside the can do? Noticed the machine says “backup” although the customer car not even on the treadle yet.

The back up light is on because the measurement eye is off /blocked and the machine thinks the car has overshot the treadle.

UPDATE; changed the measurement eyes and no more error 100, but then machine asking for backup with no error and going all the way to the other side of the track. Changed the eyes in the cans as well , and its fixed. I supposed to get error 101 when cans eyes bad but they were good in the start of the machine, but as soon as machine moved it got disconnected. Also when error 100 boom doesn't come down on both frond and rear, but in this case boom was coming down in the front.

Basically for the machine to work as intended all banner eyes must function properly. It is not unusual for me to create problems for myself while wiring other eyes by leaving a wire or screw loose or incorrectly wiring an eye to be on the wrong channel. Check all your receiver eyes on the passenger side of the gantry and make sure they are all getting signal.

you can also go into the tech menu, select option “view PLC inputs” and look at your eye status on channel 2008 and 2010. the measurement and can eyes are on 2008 and the boom safety eyes and profiling eyes are on 2010. The status of these eyes when there is no car should be on. While viewing the eye status use the buttons to start a wash cycle. When you start a wash cycle, the eye should self-test and turn off for a coupe of seconds and then back on. If it does not test properly the PLC will ignore the input from that eye and modify wash behaviors in the interest of safety.

if you can’t find anything obviously wrong with an eye go into your permanent alarm record to look for hints. Continue traveling backwards on alarms and see if there is a pattern of alarms. If your time and date are right on the PLC match that with the work you have done and when the problems began to occur here’s a couple rules of thumb:

if the machine travels all the way to the end of the track that is likely a measurement eye problem.

if the boom does not come down at the front and/or back of the car that is likely a can eye or boom safety eye issue.(this can also be a boom count issue with proximity switches too)

if the boom comes down at the front and/ or back but goes all the way back home into the nest before the machine travels that is likely a profiling eye problem, or a boom safety eye that is not getting strong signal and is blocked by water spray.

Hope this helps

the problem is back (asking for backup, machines goes to end of the tracks, no boom coming down, but no error on the display except for error68) , so far changed measurement eyes and can eyes. I'm now going to clean (open its connection, add dielectric grease) Contouring eyes and see if its fixed. I dont have spare eyes anymore until next Monday. I did use used eyes I took from Measurement eyes for the can eyes.

The fact that I got error 68 means the boom wanted to come down but didnt due to being at the home position, so it cant be the boom eyes. to your point below, I think it is the countering eyes.

" if the boom comes down at the front and/ or back but goes all the way back home into the nest before the machine travels that is likely a profiling eye problem. "

Here is a short video. As you see the machine know where to stop the rocketpanel and where to start rinse as it goes to back of the car, also no error 100 or 101, that makes me believe its not measurement or can eyes, then it must be countering eyes. Also the on a normal operation, the Backup sign come sup as soon as the car goes between the contouring eyes and not the can eyes. So it might be bad Contouring eyes since they cant see each other, they say Backup.

im out of options, so far changed measurement eyes to brand new eyes, used those eyes on the can, and also changed boom eyes (closer to the exit side), and still getting error 100 sometimes and also asking to Backup. Should I change the measurement eyes to the ones with straight cable rather the pigtail ones? For now, we keep pressing Reset until no error shows up and then send customers in. Either starts all fine, or there is issue from the start.

If you did not swap the eye cable out that could very well be your problem. The connection goes bad frequently.

Did you follow the instructions I gave you to check on the red lion itself for issues?

The PLC must see the eye working. If the new eye with long cable does not fix it then a new input card would be worth a try,

Thanks my next step is to change the eye with the cable. The lights 0 an 2 are both on on Channel 2008 in the electric box on the gantry. But im thinking mayeb thats because power is ok, but perhaps the data (or whatever its called) cable is bad. So although light 0 is on, since cable is bad, still getting error 100.

Also check 2010 -0,1,2,3 (if you have contouring option)

If you're looking at the gantry input card you can flip the switch on the little ice cube relay in the box and that will turn off all transmitters. Make sure all lights mentioned above turn off. The, switch the lever back on and all the lights should quickly light back up. If there is any delay more than a second that is a suspect cable/eye

thanks, I wasn't too sure how to " flip the switch on the little ice cube relay in the box ", so instead I turned off the entire machine from the lion in the mechanical room. I asked my assistant to turn the machine back on, and every time both numbers 0 and 2 come up at the same time. the light on number 0 is a little bit dimmed, not sure of that means anything. this is a super intermittent issue, and we seem to have issue more early in the morning when the machine has been sitting for few hours.

That is the relay I was referring to. It cycles power to all the transmitter eyes during initiation of a wash and tests eyes. It is cheap, just buy a replacement AND a replacement socket while you're at it. You may not need the socket but trying to eliminate problems it is best to change it out. Both items combined are probably $40. You can steal a relay off a Coleman combo vac if you need to.

That little grey /tan lever is what I was referring to on the relay. Just take your fingernail and flip it upwards and it will activate it.

thanks until I find the relay to replace it, I just removed and see a small rust on one of the legs, also small rust on one of the wires going to the base. Cleaned all that with contact cleaner and no more error right away. So lets see what happens the rest of the day. I will change the relay when I get one anyways.

Problem back already, noticed sometime error100 pops up right away, sometimes everything good for few seconds and then while no error on display it says backup on the gantry.
