Your average number of washes per day/month

Hey guys. I was wondering what your average washes per day/month are? I know it will fluctuate wildly but this just sticks in the back of my mind.

Read about the 3 mil self serve averaging 160,000 a month (5333) per day. That number struck me as extremely high.

Is there a link to the story? Was it purely a SS or did it have IBAs as well? Are your numbers car volume or Dollars?

Even if it is in dollars, that means it sold for 1.5 times gross. Profit margins are higher in a self serve than in an automatic. With expenses, it would probably be a 3 year payback?

Did the story reference any magic beans.

It was a thread I found on here. It was someone considering purchasing the wash. I believe it was an automatic and the average # of washes reported was 160,000 a month. Ill see if I can find the thread again.

Regardless I was wondering what your personal average is. If someone wishes to share.

Likely 160,000/year. That would be a busy wash with SS bays & IBA. To give you an idea...a touchless roll-over maxes out in the low 20k per year. Even if he is talking cycles and not washes in the SS bays...that's still a very good number.

I just watched the Modern Marvels and the focus on the Cloister Car Wash they call the largest in america. They mention it washes 120,000 cars a year.

"To give you an idea...a touchless roll-over maxes out in the low 20k per year".

Could you explain this statement? Im confused.

Well the average wash is between 5 to 8 min. On a busy day, you can wash about 160 cars max. But you only get a handful of those days. The average would likely be in the 60 cars/day range. sine you'll have rain days, ok days, down days, etc. Some may do better, but most would likely be less. I think our car wash association had 5000/quarter in their survey.

In my opinion...Very good estimate!

If you check out some of the various car wash magazines that do yearly surveys I think their averages are about 1500 automatic washes per month per bay. I think the last ICA study was also around 1500 per month. 2000 cars per month per bay is a pretty good IBA. SS bays average around $1200 to $1500 per bay per month.

Don't they advertise the capacity at 250,000 per year?

We wash about 120,000 per location, per year, about 85% full service

SS bays average around $1200 to $1500 per bay per month.

Sadly I bought in to those averages before nailing down a deal to acquire a location with SS bays.

Then I learned (here!) that the larger the number of bays the less the average unless you have a gangbuster location; and

If the SS is paired with an EE Tunnel you can expect that to suck a chunk of volume that may have gone to the SS bays.

FWIW I have had some real issue with the magazine tunnel stats as well especialy vis a vis some expense items or lack thereof.

So, the magazine info is just more stuff to throw into the pot, but don't rely on it oo much.

The poll sampling for the magazine stats is very small and only includes the few operators that subscribe to the magazine that send back the surveys so it is far from an independent instrument. It may be somewhat interesting but not usually very accurate.

I agree that the magazines will overstate numbers based on sampling size and the fact that those who send the surveys in are usually the better operators and the ones doing well. The ICA paid studies may be more reliable but none have been done in our current economic state so it is of little value also since it would be based on better years than we have seen in a while.
