I found what I think is a useful feature in the settings section of the forum. If you'd like to ignore the posts of a particular forum member, go to "settings" and then "edit ignore list". Type in the name of the forum member that you don't want to see posts from. The member name will come up, click on it and click the "okay" button. After you do this you will still see that the member posted to a thread, but the post will not show up by default. You will have the option to view the post or not.

I dunno. I like reading posts from people I think are idiots. (And you know who you are.) Mostly like to see the reactions from others.

The old timers here remember the one particular member that couldn't seem keep from letting us know how great he was and how inferior we are. It was common knowledge that I couldn't stand him and some of my buddies would try to needle me from time to time and get me to jump into some of his rants. It took a while, but I finally learned that it was better to leave him alone. I never put him on the ignore list because I wanted to see what he was writing and wanted to be reminded that he was the industry fool and not the gift that he thought he was. It always reinforced that I was fortunate to never follow his advice on anything of any substance. I pretty much use the same philosophy with a current member whose condescension pretty much eliminates his chances of getting any respect from forum members and probably countless lurkers.

I couldn’t agree more. As I have entered my Golden years my tolerance for stupidity and ignorance have pretty much gone away, in other words I've got a pretty short fuse. Over the years I’ve come to the realization that those people who try to impress you with what they think they know actually know very little about what they are talking about. I would use a for “Example” but I’m not because I don’t want to bore everyone with my for “Example” so with that being said I’m going to put the “Clown who thinks he know it all” from Florida on my ignore list.

I've been using forum ignore lists for... oh crap, decades. Life is too short to waste any time at all with some people.
I also use the facebook filtering feature because 90+% of that is unadulterated garbage.
(ie, I dont have an account). Makes days just a little bit more enjoyable.

I know Mac can get a little off kilter every now and then, but I wouldn't go so far as calling him a clown. Besides, I thought we liked him.

My friend's son is a senior in high shool and he is helping me at my wawsh. Good young man, reliable, hard worker. I'm good for providing him with at least one laugh and lesson each time that he helps me fix something. Turn off appropriate breaker before working on electric. Cut the air tot he flojet before disconnecting hoses. Commonsense things that remind me of how tehnology challenged I've been/become. Recently he has begun show some confidence by questioning what I was doing. He is right most of the time, so I've told him to stop me when I'm heading for something stupid. $10 an hour and all the common sense he cares to learn. I can admit it too.

WOW, incredible.

Thanks for all the attention.

I hope you guys do a better job at washing cars than ignoring certain people.

You are mistaken that this is self-confidence. This is arrogance. If there were ever a modicum of humility in any of your posts, it might be different.

I'd be willing to bet that you've run off more new forum members than you've helped.

any wagers on who is the highest rate on the ignore list? Can we set odds on people? I'm sure the moderator can look up who is on that list by numbers? I would be willing to bet there is really only 1 person that is is even on that list!!

"I'd be willing to bet that you've run off more new forum members than you've helped."

To be sure you are kidding ???

You guys are waaay too emotional. Its a FORUM. Where people offer their OPINION. You don't have to agree with or like them all, or any of them for that matter.

There are a few guys on here who always instigate an argument or throw mud. I wish they knew how to use the ignore. Its almost like the only reason they come on here is to start a fight. Mike I like the way you delivered your message. You didn't call anyone out or start a fight. You simply offered a DIFFERENT way to deal with an unwanted poster. I don't use the ignore feature because I read those guys posts too. I usually dont like what they have to say (whining about something) but every once in a while it might cause me to look at something differently. Not better or worse, but differently.

Moderator take note
Just last month we(the forum) had a brand new first time poster. I think it was post 5 that someone blew out a nasty response that offered NO USEFUL INFORMATION to the original poster. Way to go buddy. That's a great way to get people to participate. That newbie hasn't been back. Maybe he learned what he needed at that time and hasn't come back yet. Or maybe because he doesn't have any appetite for a peein contest on an open forum.

If one cant post something positive, don't post at all. It ruins the experience for those of us who use the forum for educational purposes. I dont know the statistics but I can only see about a dozen folks or so that I would call frequent posters. Really ???? In the whole country ??? Ever wonder why that is ?

to everyone else, all of us are supposedly "business" people, seeking knowledge. Lets all be smart enough to listen to what each person has to say. feel free to ignore me if you like.

I'm inclined to agree. Not everyone is willing to just jump in and mix it up, some first time/never time posters may be a little timid. Having the fear of a condescending Hugh Jassole making them feel stupid may be just what it takes to scare them away or prevent them from posting to begin with. My 2¢

I can only speak for myself, but I come here to find out how to fix things and to find ideas how the rest of you have solved problems. Reading about the impacts of car counts, percentages of mean income, etc, make me run away as it provides no value as how to resolve the problem the original poster started the thread with.

Everyone is entitled to their opinion, which is why I ignore the opinions of some people who demonstrate a repeated lack value add to the forums. Just how I do things.

Fixed my cat3535, had two chunks of a porcelain chunks stuck in the valves. No clue how they got in the line, but glad I found it! The symptom was the pump stand vibrating violently and not getting up to pressure. Thought it wasn’t priming, but it was junk in the valves.
